Job Advice Appreciated for Computer Education

I am an American female new to Dublin. I am a primary school teacher by profession and am finishing up a Master's Degree in Computer Education and Leadership in Technology from a university in the US this coming June. My teaching qualification is not recognized here even though it is full accredited in the States and I have ten years of teaching experience under my belt. So, I am relying on my master's degree to help me get a job in Ireland.

I would appreciate some career advice. I am thinking about teaching computing at a secondary school, a vocational school or a university. Since I am an experienced teacher, I was thinking about applying to Teacher Colleges for a lecturer position teaching ICT because my specialty is in integrating technology in classroom instruction.

I am also open to working for companies/corporations. I am experienced in using FLASH, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop and can develop content and designs for the web.

Please give me some solid advice as to what kind of job is suitable for me. It is not a good time to look for a job, but I think that my education and experience are extensive enough to land a job. Thank you very much.

You couldn't have come at a worse time, I'm afraid. Jobs in education are simply not there, at least not full-time anyway.

I've been trying for the past 5-6 years to get a full-time, permanent position in a third level college/university and they simply don't exist. You will get a few hours here, a few hours there, plus maybe some hours in the evening, but nothing you could live off.

As for second level, Computing and IT is not part of the curriculum, so is not taught. Even if it was, things are pretty bad at second level too, not a hope in hell of you getting a job, to be blunt.

Have a read over the Teaching/Lecturing forum here to get a feel for how bad things really are on the Education front.
