There's a whole host of celebs who play golf. Anyone know if many of them are any good?

Which ones have the best handicaps?

Didn't the footballer Julian Dicks have a bash at the pro scene after he retired from kicking people, er i mean playing football?

Kenny G the saxophone player is off a + hcp I think.
Adam Baldwin and Michael Jordan are both low handicappers.

Ivan Lendal played in the Czech Open a couple of years ago.

Bill Murray was a member of the course I worked at in the US. I caddied for him a bunch of times and he was a decent 8 handicapper.

He hit the ball a way off the tee and was a handy putter.

The only thing was he NEVER took it seriously. He would spend most of the time winding up the other players - he was a cool guy to work for, but you could never see him winning any sort of Am-Am or Pro-Am....

Based on his swing I believe Charles Barkley is off a + handycap:

Jimmy Bullard, ex of Fulham plays off scratch apparently, but then he's injured quite a lot so has plenty of time to work on his game.
Think I remember seeing somewhere that Lee Dixon was scratch or maybe off 1.
Definitely remember reading that Shevchenko spent more time playing golf than football while at Chelsea

i've seen ronan keating and that duffy bloke from boyzone playing at roganstown a few times
keating plays a tight game - might not have real power but rarely misses a fairway

    Alan Hansen plays off 3

Bob Dylan is apparently off 16, but keen.

According to Howdidido, there's a keith Duffy playing there... handicap 28. No sign of any Keating though, although something runs in my head that he's a member in Malahide.

Kenny Dalglish is a keen golfer too... think he could be 7 or so.

Michael Douglas, Zeta Jones and Jodie Kidd and all those lot play too i think.

Didn't Evgeni Kafelnikov enter into the Russian Open last year as an amateur? Think there was an old ice hockey player in there as well (Kovalev?)

    yep, here it is:

    Kafelnikov +25 after 2 rounds, Kovalev +40

They were mostly there to sucker a few russians into watching golf I suppose...

Hansen was off a low handicap even as a teenager, and apparently it was a choice whether he'd concentrate on golf or football. He hasn't done too badly.

Justin Timberlake plays to about 6 (US H'cap), hosts his own tournament is coached by Butch harmon and is sponsored by Callaway....so he's doing ok I guess

There's a show on the Golf Channel where Hank Haney (Tiger's coach) tries to fix his swing.
He takes practice swings fine just has the yips when he tries to hit the ball.

D.J. Carey plays off 4 or 5 I think... played a few holes with him last summer. He has a lovely swing and seemed to have a very tidy game... had one of those mickleson style (blade with a shaft at the end) putters that we'd all love to be able to use :)
    Legend.

Ronan Keating was leading the amatuer at the Dunhill Links yoke this year for a while. Samuel L Jackson i think has a thing written into his movie contracts that he has to get off for a certain number of rounds of golf for the duration of the Filming.

Got stuck behind this due and his entourage a couple of years back in the K-Club. Took us 1 hour to play 3 holes, 5.5 hours for 18. The number of high fives etc. that were going on when they holed a 2-foot putt was laughable. Should be barred from every course in the land.

    Correct, off 5
    Niall Quinn offf 3
    Bill Cullen off 18
    Dermot Desmond off 11
    Ben Dunne off 16
    Gerard Kean off 17
    Martin McAleese off 16
    Fran Rooney off 28
    Michael Smurfit off 22
    John Treacy off 24

Just look up the K Club handicap listing, not saying above are celebrities, but are 'known'

On the rugger front I think O'Connell was very handy as a junior and was down to something like 5 or 6

Also Conor O'Shea was a hell of a golfer as a junior (5 or 6) again was a contempary of a certain P Harrington in Stackstown (I hear he has gone on to better things)

Yeah Ronan was in first place after 2 days of play he was partnering Graeham
Storm, they were in the top 10 at the end of the tornament. Ian Botham is a good player too, also Hugh Grant likes a game he was at Dunhill as well as Hughie Lewis and Don Henley from the Eagles.
