Does anyone here ever contact the Irish Taxation Institute for technical queries. I've contacted them on 3 spereate occasions and only once got feedback to my query which was about 3 days later and by then I had gotten the answer from elsewhere.

    Silly how smcgiff?

Unless you're Big 4, the ITI don't want to know. It's reflective in their members and the people who make up the institute itself.

Take a look at the examiners for ITI, they all come from Big 4 and if you look at the pass rates for the exams, guess what Big 4 students have a much higher pass rate.

Well, guess what, Big 4 students generally have a better academic record than others, somehow I think that might have more to do with it than your conspiracy theory.

What the hell are you talking about. The examiners are a secret- no-one knows who they are. The lecturers certainly do not have a Big 4 background. One or two do but that's it.

Of course big 4 students have a higher pass rate. They're the creamed academic students and have Big 4 study leave and support.

Also- why the hell would you contact the institute for technical queries??

Are you looking for free advice? They are a body responsible for training tax consultants and lobbying on tax matters. They are not there to provide tax advice. How are they going to bill you for it.

Can you not contact the Revenue or are your queries Tax avoidance related.

I find that in every Revenue local there is at least one good person to whom you should technical queries.

These guys have studied tax but never got into a practice for some reason or other.

Revenue aren't much help either I'm afraid. Anything outside general VAT and PAYE queries etc is outside their scope.

Still no word from the tax institute, I was of the understanding that the Institute was there to support it's members and that service is reflected in your memberships fees.

That's not true I'm afraid. The examiners are well known and most are either in one of the Big 4 or were at one stage in a Big 4 firm. When I was doing the exams we knew exactly who the examiners were because some of the students in the class worked for them. Lecturers are from the same bacground aswell.

The institute bills you by charging membership fees each year.
