Ok I'm a student and I'm need to get my highlights and cut redone but am kinda broke :-(

Friend recommended going to a hairdressing school...

Peter Marks on Nth Earl St said they'd charge 100 for highlights and cut ... then asked if i wanted it blowdried as well.. which I would assume means I'll be charged extra for it!

Is if just me or does that sound expensive to have a trainee do your hair? especially when it would take waaaaay longer!

    any recommendations/advice?

    City centre salons ideally...

100 is crazy money for a trainee cut/colour! I only pay slightly more than that at full price!

I've been asked on Grafton Street by trainees from Toni and Guy loads of times, actually let them twice and both times they did it for free (maybe because it was them that asked me though!). Both times they did great jobs on my hair and i'd go all the time if it didn't take so long! AFAIK you can leave your name and number with the T&G training school and they will call you if they need someone (feel free to correct me if i'm wrong, it's been a few years since I dealt with them).

I go to the Robert Chambers Academy on Liffey Street (beside the back food entrance to Marks & Spencers, upstairs from Lunatic Fringe).

It costs about €45 for a wash, cut, semi-permanent colour and a blowdry, really great value IMO, but it does take ages, took nearly 3 hours the last time, so make sure you have loads of time!

I'm usually always very happy when I go there, and the teachers will always touch up the cutting to make it look perfect before you leave, however the last time I went I wasn't 100% happy with the cut, I think the hairdresser was afraid to cut off a lot and give me more layers that I asked for.

However, I've been about 7-8 times, and it's the first time I wasnt fully happy, so hopefully it's a once off! Also, I find them really good for colour.

They don't open on Saturdays, which is annoying, but you can get morning or afternoon appointments Monday to Friday, either at 10am or 2pm.
