Can a blog just be written like a diary?

I'm on day three of my blog, and although I started it to write about my learnings about web-based programming, so far it's going a bit more like a diary, and I find myself telling (the nobody who reads the blog) general stuff about my life.
So it leads me to this question - does a blog have to have a theme, a set topic? Most other blogs I have come across are about technical issues, topical controversies with software giants, or stuff like that.
If I write my blog like a diary, with a very lose theme about how I am going learning . . . is that just stupid?

    Thanks. :)
