I'm interested in getting involved with helping the homeless, and someone was saying to me that you can do soup runs with the Simon Community, and I'm just wondering if anyone has done this before? what sort of hours is it? Would be dangerous at all? I'm sure its heart-breaking but I'd love to get involved, I've no money to give but I'd give my time....if anyone has done it please let me know, I'd love to hear about it!

Haven't done the Simon soup run myself but know people who have. My impression from them was that it was pretty fascinating to be involved with it, getting to see a side of the world which most of us simply scurry by. The only thing that stopped me getting involved was that I was working office hours and that it finishes very late. Give the Simon office a call anyway and they can fill you in. As for it being dangerous, I can't imagine it would be really as the soup run people go around in groups. Good luck!
