Travelling to rome with my brother for four days in May!! We are looking for somewhere ordinary but not a complete kip to stay (budget c €500). Thing is all ok hotels within budget from brief research seem to be located around Termini station, a location that comes with a warning!! I'd appreciate if anyone has any accommodation recommendations?

I wouldnt be overly worried about the Termini area. I reseached cheap hotels in Rome recently and from what I read in LonelyPlanet and other good guides its just a case of excersing common sense as you would in any big city. It doesnt appear to be a hotbed of crime or anything. Most guides advise it is best avoided by single women, but 2 burly Irish fellas should be grand! ;)

Anytime I go to Italy, a few times a year, I use Venere.com to find somewhere to stay. They haven't let me down so far.

Thanks for all the helpful posts ,, I used the suggested website venure.com! Its very good offering a chance to compare hotels etc with all advantages/disadvantages of each hotel listed. Thet also provide links to reviews on the hotel which was useful!! Eventually got some guts and settled on a Lazzari Hotel in termini area!! Ill let you know how it goes!!!
