    Hi Folks,

    has anyone any experince of buying an iMac stateside and bringing back over here? I know a lot MBP's and MB's have been procured in this fashion but what about the larger desktops? Would it be an option? ;)

    Thanks,
    S

    very little chance of taking back an imac without being caught or damaged. It wouldn't be worth the hassle. Buy the imac in the belfast store and save a few euro that way.

    If you get a US-spec iMac, the power supply will be configured for 110v operation, requiring you to get a transformer. The MacBook power supplies can work on any voltage, since they're designed for travel, but not the desktops. You'll also get a US-spec keyboard.

    Probably better off just biting the bullet and getting a UK or Ireland-spec version. The exchange rate isn't really in our favour at the moment anyway.

    I just brought my Desk Top back from Japan .

    Just take the side off any of their (Mac) machines and you will notice they operate from 100-120/200-240/6.5A/3.5A/50-60Hz.

    PLUG INTO An Adapter Wall Socket Ireland/UK ... switch on to run the cooling fans....Swich off...

    You will then need to unclip the chips and put them back again to get your Screen (Monitor) to work .

    Boot up and on your merry way....

    What’s in the Box
    iMac box

    * iMac
    * Apple Keyboard
    * Mighty Mouse
    * Power adapter and cord
    * Install/restore DVDs
    * Printed and electronic documentation

    The
    iMac
    is nothing more than a laptop on a stand

    Configuration Options4

    * Processor up to 3.06GHz
    * NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 with 512MB memory
    * ATI Radeon HD 4850 with 512MB memory
    * Memory up to 8GB

    * Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, Apple Wireless Keyboard, and wireless Mighty Mouse

    Before coming in from the states ... strip down all packaging and post the empty box home.. This will help when you arrive at customs and you will have nothing to declare only your laptop on a stand.......
