Ok this exactly what it says on the tin, something that annoys me senseless. And it's something that see and whats worse hear on a very regular basis; Rusty Chains! I have considered stopping people and saying to them please clean and oil your chain. I mean any oil would be better than no oil! When people are cycling how do they not hear the chain squeaking away and how do they not fix it! It soo annoying!!!

    Anyone else feel the same?

They probably think that only a qualified mechanic could lube their chain and they are too tight to pay for it.

When you strain and sweat to pass a cyclist out and then when you reach a red light they stop in front of you.

So you cycle hard and overtake them again but they stop in front of you at the next lights

    Why? :mad::confused:

Yeah ninjas for me too. It's really dangerous (had a lad sneak up behind me yesterday, no lights or anything, had to double-check over my shoulder because I thought I was seeiing things) and a set of basic lights are pretty cheap and make a big difference.

Oh and cars that treat red light filters for turning right like yield signs.

You should always have a couple of snot rockets ready to randomly set loose when you're waiting at lights, it's not your fault if someone overtaking you gets hit :)

Oh, when they go ahead of you at the lights (if they stop)? Yeah that gets me.

Had a nice commuter race with a RLJ yesterday from around Rathmines on the canal to Merrion Road, guy flew up the footpath to avoid the lights at one point.

    @mikemac
If you have to "sweat and strain" then it seems luke you have to put far too much work into passing them. Why not stick behind them then because by the sounds of things you would be too tired to keep up such a pace to justify passing them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,246 ✭✭✭Hungrycol

Vehicles that overtake you only to turn immediatly left.

Vehicles pulling out from the left blocking the cycle track.

Vehicles that are licking your back tyre on roundabouts.

I'm a RLJ, but a safe one if they exist, and although it wasn't me yesterday it soulds like the kind of thing I'd do ;).

Ah sweat and strain was just a figure of speech, an exaggeration I suppose.
Just getting the frustration out, this being a my pet hate thread. And it is frustrating!

Besides, it's others that strain and sweat to keep up with me

Fair enough, but the guy was on the footpath going quickly enough across some driveways which is a bit crazy I think.

I completely agree with the first thing because they do that alot.
As for pulling out, I had an incident where I was going down the bus lane one morning and a car pulled out in front of me without looking and only saw me too late as I shouted but even though I whipped on the brakes I was still going too fast and hit the front wing and completely cleared the bonnet to land on the road. Luckily I only had a few bumps and scratches!

Ah I see, I kmow exactly what you mean then. I'm finding that it doesn't happen as much these days because I generally do a trackstand and they keep back

Hmmm...you are the same woman who led off the St Patrick's day spin at close to 40km/h, right? I confess I was somewhat relieved when emty went up the front to restore a little discipline.

Cars who pull across the cycle lane in order to get out from their house -like along the N11..really annoys me. Literally they are parked on the cycle lane. Theres no option generally but to completely stop!

As for cyclists pulling up in front of yoy at traffic lights - they are just throwing down the gauntlet for another duel :pac:

the road from ballsbridge into town. horrible!

the wind from a bus when they hurtle past you, especially when they're quite close. i'd like to make it clear, i've never had a problem with buses, i think they know how to drive with a cyclist on the inside and not cause problems, it's the indirect and unavoidable blast of wind that's a pet hate.

the timing of the lights on the blackrock bypass; either you get all of them, and have no problem, or you get none of them and spend most of your time trying to make sure the cyclist who is WAY slower than you doesn't f**king overtake you at the light again!

my pet hates tend to be directed at things i can't blame anybody in particular on... shame that!

    Taxi drivers!!

Bus drivers in my experience are quite forgiving of cyclists and drive with a maturity that suggests you can trust them (except for some 16A and 27B drivers), but taxi drivers seem to like using cyclists for target practice!!

RLJs - for whom I have a particular contempt for and for whom I reserve a special over-taking manoeuvre for. The "special" involves:-
    1. Catching up to them
    2. Drafting behind them for a few hundred metres
    3. Accelerating hard to get out and around them
    4. Freewheeling once you come into their peripheral vision
    5. Examining the nails on one hand as you slip effortlessly by and in front of them without pedaling
    6. Dropping a gear and cycling inexorably away from them (until the next red light!!)

I got my first ever "worrayafookinwaitinfer" from an RLJ struggling past me to J an RL the other day. That was nice.

But my current pet hate is one I've only just noticed happening: one handers.

I've no problem waiting to overtake someone who's going slower than me, but someone who is going slow only because they're cycling with one hand is downright anti-social.

Dropping the hand: it's a filthy habit.
