which is the best Dry food to have a female boxer on?

i currently have my pair on red mills leader range and they both look in nice shape, i plan to breed of her the next time she comes into heat, both are 2.5 years old and good quality boxers and have no health problems at all.

should i leave my girl on this food or is there somthing i should wean her onto befor she comes into heat and befor she becomes pregnant, when she was last at the vets he recommended putting her on a specialist brand 60€ fancy name but i dont want to change her food unless i realy need to, what would be best for her is the Red Mills Leader a great product or just an ok product in your opinion

    thanks for your help

check out the "buying dog food" thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055433795&highlight=buying+dog+food

    read up here http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/

I've switched ours to Orijen its outstanding its not cheap (price doesn't come into it really when it comes to whats best for them) but cheaper if you buy here www.zooplus.co.uk instead of the .ie website.

Red Mills is a good quality food and if they are doing well on it i wouldnt be changing it.

You only need to change to food when shes in pup, well not exactly change it, but get a good quality food suitable a bitch thats in pup, as she will need more nutrients and stuff to help feed the puppies.

Red Mils also do a supreme range which might be a little step up from the leader range.

Royal Canin do a food specifically for Boxers (among other breeds).
I agree though, if they are doing ok on the Red Mills I would see no reason to change brand. You should be able to get extra supplments to add to her food once she is in pup.

thanks for your help guys, i think im gonna stick with the red mills i was just wanting to check with other people's opinions on what they tought of the red mills. your right i did read about the supreme range i will check with the supply store and see would the recommend moving her onto it or leaveing her on the leader range, i hope they give me their honnest opinion instead of thinking the extra €€€, i just want whats right for her.

    thanks again everyone

    hi guys...
I was doing a bit of traveling today north and south of the border I came across 2 shops out of 5 that stocked the James Wellbeloved brand, i got some great tips from the staff at the 2 stores that stocked it and in the second store there was a nice lady & her husband that swore by it! they had 2 labadors and a boxer, they went on saying that most boxers suffer from delicate tummys and any boxers they have rescued all had loose stool / bad dyaria it was down to the poor quality super market foods the previous owners had them on they rescued 5 boxers throughout the last several years and they all the same little problems, they say they continue to give their other 2 labadors lower priced good quality food recommended from the pet store and the boxer gets the 58€ bag! I think it was just luck that i bumped into them they knew where a great help. so tonite i have starting to introduce my in heat girl to a bag of James Wellbeloved along with her usual Redmills with fingers crossed and a wee prayer now i hope to see some improvements over the next week or two. thanks everyone for their help and their time to replying to my question i would never have known about the other products or not as many other products out there on the market without the help from you guys and this site!

good stuff and best of luck. we've moved our Newf from Royal Canin to Orijen in the last week and since i've been examining his poop (nice i know) and the difference is like night and day, huge improvement and he loves the Orijen also

Can i just ask why you want to change? you said the dogs were doing well on the red mills and then you say that you are looking for improvements?

James wellbeloved is a very good food though so you should have no problems on it.

Just a little warning, well not so much warning. Sometimes when you change over the food to something new you might get a little bit of runny poo's, but if you do this gradually, as you say you are, you shouldnt have much of a problem with that.

hi andrec my wee girl is going to the stage of runny poo's while it is very very mild and she has good days as well as little messy ones I would prefare to try her on somthing different if incase when she is pregnant / in pup that her little problem might get worse

the other lad is doing very good on his red mills so i think i will leave him on it until i see any reason to take him off it

almost double the price of the red mills but if its good for my girl its money well spent! :)
