    Spike Jonze directing = good
Dave Eggers / Spike Jonze writing = good
James Gandolfini, Catherine Keener, Forest Whitaker, Catherine O'Hara, Paul Dano = good
And some of the imagery in that trailer is pretty amazing. Can't say I'm familiar with the book (seems to be huge in America) but I am very much looking forward to this. Hopefully it will = good.

Yeah, never read the books myself. But I love the look of the film from the trailer. I know you can't really tell too much from the trailer but I love the handheld style shots. Kind of reminds me of Eternal Sunshine for some strange reason

Whats the story with this film?

I heard the studio was absolutely appalled with what Jones had done (surprise surprise;)) and there was talk of them reshooting it or axing it early.

Is it all done and is Spike Jones happy with the end product?

Yeah there was quite a bit of trouble over it alright, but I haven't heard anything much about it as of late. I'm guessing, based on the trailer and Jonze's continued association with it, that the problems were sorted out somehow.

Also seems Karen-O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is writing the score: could be interesting.

The trailer's glorious, I feel like maybe we non-Americans have been missing out on something.

That's definitely an unreleased version of that song, too, I don't know if Arcade Fire re-recorded it or just gave them an older take, but either way it's perfect.

the creatures look silly, they don't have the weight they should.
there voices don't match their size.

    That's a very solid trailer. I'm intrigued.

The book is a huge children s classic and not just in America.

The story is wonderfully complex and simple and the drawing stay with you.
I really hope the don't screw it up, the last copy which we bought for this house
we picked up in the books section of the natural history museum.

Funny that, they're exactly how I imagined them when I read the book.

Really looking forward to seeing this, I got the shivers watching the trailer, so hopefully it will follow through.

This was a great book. Anyone who has kids should pick it up. Its very dark, but kids get dark sometimes. I remember as a kid, those monsters were always in my mind, and the fact that the kid ruled them rocked. He was a mean assed kid.

The art is legendary, I was anxious when I heard they were filming it, but the clip looks very good. The reason it was basically scrapped and refilmed was that in the screening kids ran out of the cinema crying, so back to the drawing board. As far as Im concerned, a bit of scary movie wouldnt hurt kids, I remember being pertrified watching a few moview when I was young, labarynth for example. Making Spike Jones reshoot it, is an overreaction.

I only watched this trailer yesterday for the first time thing it would be an awesome sequel to that movie with Denise Richards.

The trailer caught me by surprise because I knew nothing about it, but it looked really good.

I am still constantly amazed that people don't know the book.

I don't think a stylised adaptation of a children's picture book is the place to be looking for realism ;)

The more I think about this though, the more I hope it will be the live action successor to My Neighbour Totoro that has been far too long coming.

why not give them deeper voices though and more weight?

theres a reason they are that size, why only go half way with it.

Looks like a low budget episode of The Muppets.

New trailer up on Yahoo. Not as arresting as the first, but still great. Bit more of the Karen O score at the start.

Supposedly, there's a Flaming Lips song or two lined up for a forthcoming one, which is slightly amusing in an indie-nerd kinda way.
