    7am swimming was great.

    in the contaminated lake?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 Cattleforker

yes, well we werent drinkin the stuff.
the weather wasnt great last year, though every morning at dawn the sun would be beaming, it was fairly irresistable to lep in and float about under a hot red dawn, it was kinda like visitng some off world mining planet, contaminated lakes and all, and the campsite is quite far from the huge machines, the distant bass beat sounds like the machines are just working away. cool experience, but bring your own cake if you like cake, cause they dont sell any cake there.

Cheers Cattleforker yeah the setting looks incredible alright and the line up looks decent. I'll be in Berlin for most of July I'd say so i suppose it would be rude not to..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭Melty

Myself and a small gang intend to head to this. The line-up is fairly phenomenal in my opinion - rex the dog, koze, aphex, radio slave, fever ray, kiki, moderat etc etc etc etc - way too many must-see acts.

cattleforker what was the story with security/police, can you remember? don't think i fancy landing over to a mini police-state

No Police at all, just security, which were all quite relaxed.
there was one wierd incident, which was on the way in on the first night, handing in the tickets, the croud was heaving and eventualy burst through the styles, bit of a rampage goin in, which was fun, but could have been dodgy. Im sure that willl be sorted.

Yeh good luck, its such a great setting, but be prepared that its a fairly drug free festival. If you were so inclined, id pick up some goody bags in Berlin before going to it, I wish i had, it would have been twenty times better, given the setting etc.

Great setting, worth it for the machines. Apart from that its not the best. Campsite is a bit of trek, full of German scenester *****.

Serious line-up alright, Ive been thinking of driving through Europe this summer. This would be a perfect stop off + 110e for a 3 day ticket bargain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,607 ✭✭✭VinylJunkie

Don't think the car would make it that far on second thoughts so booked flights and tickets should be good 4 of us heading over!

I'm heading next Wednesday, anyone know what the story is with bringing tents on a Ryanair flight?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8 happycamper00

I'd imagine they'd wet themselves with excitement at the thought of what they could charge someone trying to bring a tent plus accessories. We're just gonna buy a cheap one over there and leave it behind. you'd get a tent in Berlin a lot cheaper than ireland

don't suppose any of the melt veterans here can help me out -

there's a few of us getting the train from berlin to dessau and from there the shuttle bus. i presume the bus will be leaving from outside the train station in dessau but anyone fancy confirming this? emailed the organisers but they have yet to respond

anyway, really looking forward to this.

I dont know where the shuttle leaves from but I would imagine its der haupt banhof ! - engage your sheep instincts and follow the crowd ! Dessau does not really look like a major destination for random backpackers so should be easy enough ...

is any one getting the cool tours bus from berlin - leaving from the "main station" (main station = berlin haupt banhof ? mmm...)

What are people doing with regards to bringing a few crates of beer etc in? Is there a place to buy them on site like at irish festivals or how far away is the nearest supermarket? Buying them in berlin and carrying them down on the bus sounds like a bit of a trek

Just home now from melt, it was simply an amazing festival, enjoyed every moment. Ill post up a report later after I get a cupa tea shower and a sleep

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,607 ✭✭✭VinylJunkie

What an amazing festival, I loved every minute of it! We drove down from berlin with our rented Fiat Panda busting at the seams with beer food and a BBQ,12 half litre bottles of beer for €12.

The campsite was great craic I met loads of people from all over the place and even made the winning throw at a drinking game to make a really hot german girl take off her top :D Amazed she did it we then rigged the next game for her to loose and take off her bottoms

A beer in the festival was something like €3.50 and a euro deposit on the cup. The late acts on Friday where canceled from the torrential rain at about 4am or so, I got soaked running back to the tent. So we missed Trentmoller Moderat Deadmau5 and the end of Goldie. Nerver seen one fight or argument everyone we met was so laid back and just enjoying themselves.

    Favourite acts:
    Kasabian
    Oasis
    Paul Kalkbrenner
    Radio Slave
    Simian Mobile Disco
    La Roux

    Worst acts:
    Aphex Twin

    Most Memorable Moment

Where I sent most of my time
Sitting on this hill looking out over the lake!

    Week in Pictures
    Thanks to Markious

I just wasn't in the mood for his dicking about with white noise for 15 mins at the start also, I know its not his fault but the sound was badly distorting.
We just left and headed for the Big wheel stage!

Was pretty special Vinyl Junkie wasn't it. What a surreal setting. I stayed in Berlin after until yesterday, memorys a little hazy at the moment but favourite act was Paul Kalkbrenner. Honourable mention going to Simian Mobile Disco, Whitest boy alive, Crystal Castles, James Holden, Boys Noize and Erol and Passion Pit. Great festival, line up, people and atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
