Social Welfare n Bank Loans

Hi All!

I didn't come across this in any other Thread, so I made a new one.

I'm in debt at tha moment, had a fairly decent job some months ago God that feels like ages ago now! Till 1 morning, I was made redundant.

Now back in the day n good-times Ireland, taking out a Bank Loan was the done thing, no worries 2 be had right, you're n a secure job, u can afford 2 take out a loan n hav tha xra bit of money ..... Make the best f it and allthat! yeah ....

That is, until u no longer earn a wage, but yet still magically hav 2 sumway invent ur income 2 repaytha bank! you still have loan re-payments 2 repay back .......

I'm in the process of being means-tested for JSA, n have been asked for all my Bank Statements since I lost my job even tough I had thought they don't normally ask for further bak than 6 months, r they even within their rights 2 be lookin at ur bank statements??!! Surely all they'd need 2 know s how much if any u hav n there ..... Like that loan has been well spread out n spent over tha lst few years between computers n college fees n a fw othr bitsbobs ......

So like when tha Inspector sees that I got a loan even tho it was before I lost my job, will it reduce my chances f getting JSA or will it hve any effect on it ........

Plus f things weren't bad enuff, will they now be able pass comment on tha couple f groceries n necessities from my bank statement.

I'm really scared n worried now they'll be able pass me out f they deem me as having eough money due 2 tha loan evn tho it's well spnt at this stage plus it was before I got un-employed ..... But like understandably n 1 smallllllllllll way they hav a budget 2 maintain so they hav their job 2do as well, so like they'll b exercisin restrictons all over tha place! So I wu imagin any othr monies u hav even if spent may affect urchances f getting soial welfare payment .....

Does any1 kno 4 sure ..... tha clarification on having a loan out n applying 4 State Benfi - Jobseeers Allowance f it is still possibl 2 receive it ......

A loan is an outgoing that you have to pay so it won't count against you (unlike large savings which would).

They want to see your bank statements to see how badly you need money, don't worry too much and contact citizens advice if you want further information on how means testing of JSA is dealt with.

And once you get it you can go straight down the bank and get a personal loan. :eek:
