Lookin for a weekend away in the summer with the lads looking at the above locations due to how reasonable the flights are. Which city would be people reccomend if your basically looking for a bit of craic, cheap beer, decent clubs, bars & some nice looking woman :)
Ryanair flights seem to be the cheapest but do they fly to areas way out outside the cities?

ryanair fly into frankfurt hahn which is approx 1hr 45mins from frankfurt city by bus. frankfurt isn't somewhere you go for a booze weekend, its a business city and most business people are gone for the weekend, there are loads of bars and clubs but on weekend nights many are empty

ryanair fly into berlin main airport and the metro right at the airport will bring you to the city centre. berlin is a buzzing town

i have never been to hamburg

Hamburg is definitely the winner of those 3 cities in my opinion.
Berlin is big and awkward to get around, Frankfurt is business orientated.

Hamburg has the StPauli and Reeperbahn area (google it) which makes life so easy for a lads weekend - the area is basically a cross between Dublins Temple Bar and Amsterdams Red Light district.

The other cities do have their plus points but you can find yourself walking for miles in seacrh of one pub or club - The fun stuff in Hamburg is more centralized into one area which is perfect for a lads trip.

agreed with armanijeanss hamburg wins hands down!! st pauli is like nothing you've ever seen before PLUS it has a massive irish club/pub called thomas read which is a right laugh...i've even managed to get in free a few times just by being irish :D

ryanair flights can be ridulously cheap - some of my mates got returns to hamburg-lubeck for £7.50!!!!! it's a little outside hamburg but the shuttle bus only costs 9 euros, is timed to coincide with the ryanair flights and only takes about an hour, depending on traffic.

What about Munich? Great beer gardens in the summer and the best beer.

Berlin has the best night life in Europe. Much cheaper than Dublin, and for once, Ryanair fly you to an airport that actually close to the city, and can be reached using the city train system.

and its possible to get on that train for free :D

i'd say flight costs, and gettint to and from alexandarplatz cost me about 35 euro..oh and thats added getting to dublin airport..i just take the bus

Thanks for the replies if its as one poster said that Hamburg is more centralised that could swing it. I reckon Berlin is a good spot but Hamburg could be easier to negotiate if everthing is in one area. The flights back from Berlin as well leave at 930am:mad:
Ryanair flights from Hamburg to Dublin are only 20 euro but they dont seem to fly from Dublin to Hamburg? Anyone know why this is? Flights are 70 euro one way Dublin to Hamburg with Aer Lingus!
Can anyone reccomend a good hotel/accomodation in Hamburg? Is St Pauli the best place to stay? Finally is Hamburg cheap for beer & food?

The Ryanair 'Hamburg' airport is actually Luebeck which is a lovely town in its own right. The airport is only 10 mins outside Lubeck and it take less than 1hour to get to Hamburg. If you are traveling in a group (which sounds like you are) buy one of the 'Laender' tickets. They let a group of up to 5 unlimited travel for a day on the regional trains. There is very little difference in the time it takes a regional train and a intercity train between the 2 cites (about 10 mins) so it is definitely worth it. PM me if you would like more info. I made the trip in the new year.

Also check the cost of flights to/from Bremen. Its is only 1.15hr to Hamburg from there too.

I agree with all the comments recommending Hamburg as a good destination. St Pauli is cool -like a super sized German Galway. The bars stay open till all hour and then a big Fishmarket (with more beer and bands) starts up around 5am down at the harbour.

What more could you want for a 'Booze Weekend'? :D

Cheaper than Dublin, but one of the more expensive places in Germany. If the weather is good drink outside and buy the beer in the offy. You'll pay under a Euro for the best stuff. The main beers up there are Holsten Pils and Astra.

Frankfurt is actually a good city for going out in, but you need to know where you are going. Sachsenhausen and Bornheim are great areas plus there are some good bars around Hauptwache. Frankfurt also has some of the best clubs I've ever been to. The only problem is that it is a little spread out.

Hamburg would be a better city for going out in. St. Pauli/Reeperbahn, Feldstrasse and Schanze are the best areas for heading out. Hamburg is cheap for food and beer. You'll get a good meal for under €10 in a lot of places and beers will usually cost around €2-€3 depending on where you are.

If you fly into Bremen, there is a strassebahn at the door of the airport that will take you to the train station. There are regular trains to Hamburg run by DB and the Metronom. If you fly into Lubeck there is also a Ryanair bus that will take you directly to the main bus station in Hamburg, it's just down the street from the main train station. If you fly into Hamburg direct, you can either get the bus or s-bahn straight into the city center.

Thanks for all the replies at the minute leaning towards Berlin but from those of you who have been there are the bars & nightclubs too spread out? Is Hamburg the better option?

Hamburg is a great city to go out in, I'd go there. The Reeperbahn area has loads of bars that are open till all hours. I went about 2 years ago, a beer was fairly cheap, about €2.50. All the bars have seats outside, i'd go back there in a heartbeat

Frankfurt. Bring a suit and a wad of cash and there will be plenty of rich German lasses looking for an Irish yuppie to play with.

    I'm not that rich

Hamburg is f**king awesome. I organised a stag there a couple of years ago and it was briliant. Don't fly with Ryanair though cause the airport is miles away. We picked Ryanair cause the flights were 20 euro cheaper than Aer Lingus. We ended up getting a taxi into town which cost us 100 euro.

Aer Lingus don't fly after October so Ryanair into Lübeck or Bremen is the closest you'll get. Ryanair have a bus direct from Lübeck into Hamburg, you can get the Metronom or DB from Bremen to Hamburg.
