Cardio on empty stomach

    Quick question.

    Being lifting the weights and now want to include some cardio.

    Ideally i would like to jump staright into a bit of HIIT but my fitness levels are not what they should be.

    Im going to do the couch to 5km to get levels up and have a goal.

    Question is..

    I dont want to lose the muscle ive gained but ive heard that doing cardio first thing on an empty stomach increases fat burn (dont know if this is true with no HIIT cario) should i take a plain protein shake before hitting the road or nothing?
