I was offered a 280ZX today, it's been in storage for a long time but need a repaint and some bodywork, very little rust from what I can see. It's black in colour and on Irish plates, Dublin I think ***IZH. If anyone's interested let me know, he's asking 600 euros for it and it's automatic too. Will try and get photos if there's any interest.

Datsun..did someone say datsun?:) That number makes it a may 1979 car.Get some pics if you can,it sounds good.

I didn't hear it running but I'd say it drove into where it is and it is a Jap car after all so I doubt it would be a problem to get it going. He said it's either 78 or 80, he's looking for the tax book. It's going on e-bay shortly.

I love those old cars. Is it 6cyl??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 424 ✭✭jay28

All the old Z'ds are 6cyl........the 280z has fuel injection. this might look good sitting beside my 260:D

    Hello Junkyard,
with the interest in the Nissan I can understand your friend putting it up on ebay. But if he wants the cash and the car is as solid as you say it is I'd definitely take it.

I wonder if its 280 RZH, a black automatic sold new by E.P Mooney to a friend of mine's father.

There werent that many about that were auto cars. I didn't think they were fuel injected though !

Junkyard, any update on the Datsun? Some pictures of the interior and exterior would be great.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,575 ✭✭✭junkyard

Nothing yet, the owner didn't get a chance to come and move the car, hopefully this week, sorry for the delay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,219 ✭✭✭Redrocket

you're doing the classic scene a favour so no need to say sorry.
have always loved these cars...., moreso the 240zx but 280 still cool

I gave the owner of this a hand to pull it out of storage this morning and was bid 850 euros even before we got it running by a passing truck driver!! A jump start, some potrol and it was away, everything works except the dash lights, a dodgy connection no doubt. Power-steering and brakes are good too, owner assures me the mileage of 69k miles is genuine and the interior reflects that. It needs a service to get it running smoother and the exhaust even seems intact, amazing, considering it's sitting in a shed for the last 16 years!! Rust wise it's exceptional for a car prone to rust, the drivers door would really need a door skin to do it justice, theres some rust on the right rear roof pillar and a bit on the back panel but other than that it's very sound and very good underneath too. There's also a set of 5 Wolfrace wheels going with it too, just need to be polished up, as well as the original ones.

Thanks for that Junkyard but its a bit expensive when stacked up against the alternatives at that price.

So Carchaeologist its upto you now can you live without this Datsun?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,598 ✭✭✭chiefwiggum

im still very interested..what would we be lookin at cost wise to get it to get it into shape for a good weekend classic car,not in concours condition? what year is it junkyard?

I reckon 2 to 3 weeks work would have in in very good nick, obviously to do the work your self would save you a lot of money and there's nothing major to be done to it, some bodywork, a bit of welding and a repaint, a good service and that's about it really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,598 ✭✭✭chiefwiggum

:o afraid i'd have to get someone to do it as i wouldnt have a clue:o does it need a full repaint?

Not really, when you consider what it is and how old it is and that's an era when cars really rusted.
