    Hi guys,
I am having trouble with my 96 Mercedes E220 Diesel.
About one in every 3 times i drive it 3 lights come on in the dash and the automatic transmission will not change out of first gear. i have to pull over, turn off the ignition and restart it, repeating this process until the lights don't come on, i have replaced the gearbox already and it is not the problem. i have brought it to load of mechanics and they can not find a problem with it. has anyone had a problem like this and solved it? or anyone know any mercedes specialist that may know how to fix it?
    Cheers

There's a Mercedes mechanic on St Peter's road in Walkinstown I believe. A mate of mine used to use him. He used to be a top Mechanic for Mercedes as far as I remember and now works for himself.

Have you had it hooked up to get a diagnostic on it?

Check that the two rear tyres on your car are identical in size make and thread pattern and dept . Having different rolling circumference on the driven wheels of an automatic or four wheel drives can cause problems with the vehicle speed sensors and stop the box from shifting properly . I know this from experience on a 5 series after the box and rear diffs were replaced for shift problems the problem turned out to be two odd tyres on the back.
