Hey guy's...i came across a new guitar shop around the corner which had some of the most interesting guitar and amps i've ever seen. its called Jimi's Music Store any one else come across it?? what you think?? its just 5 mins away from x-music. actually right beside the greenhills roundabout..its full of old vintage gear..lots of fender gear, loads of weird stuff too (there's a purple marshall stack!) man its a dream..i got a great deal on an old martin acoustic..i could have stayed in the place all day..i've never seen half the gear he has..the guy working there knows his stuff too..he was able to tell me eveything about all the gear in stock.
There's a good selection of new guitars 'n' stuff, same prices as online too..but you gotta go have a look at the vintage guitars..its well worth it.

Its not that expensive..i went in and got a good price for a 20 year old martin today..its worth chatting with the guy in there..its not like buying from x-music..the guys in there dot have a clue..this guy gave me a great deal today,i was chuffed leaving...dont get me wrong x-music is nice but the lads in there cant afford to give you €5's off any gear...they just cant afford to do it...too many overheads...
Jimis has loads of gear you just cant get your hands on around dublin..its the real deal..takes away the risk of buying from ebay y'know...you can actually go in a play the guitars and decide if you want to purchase and then you can haggle like mad if you want! i did!!

Yea, still though i only got 700 notes which is far far away from the haggle zone. Still though might save up a bit if it aint gone by the time i do i might give a stall up. Tis a great idea for a music store!

700 aint bad..i saw a lot of fender mustang and cyclone (i think)...around the 1K mark and they were from the 70's..which is great value..and even the 70;s strats were around 15-17 hundered...if i remember correctly..i wont be able to help me'self when i go back.

The problem is im after the tele deluxe, the widerange pickups are going for 300 bucks by themeselves these days. Id say im gonna have to get the reissue and find some wide range pups later and install em!

New (to me anyway) shop in Swords as well, though their website is pretty poor.

    +1 on Nozebleed's post..

have been in a few times now, went in for a set of strings this week and walked out with a guitar I hadn't planned on buying so just wanted to pass on the positive buzz in case people hadn't been in or found it yet, only about a minute off the ballymount roundabout or about a km from Xmusic or Ballymount recycling if you're coming off the M50 at Bmount.

Jimmy seems to have hit on the right balance of good gear, good prices and a relaxed atmosphere. No pressure sell and no daft pricing and he's always open to cutting a deal or working a trade so that you can get your hands on the gear you're craving.

Bit of an Aladdin's cave, gear you'll never see anywhere else, all the vintage gear is in great nick and if not, serviced up to gig-ready spec and is the only place you'll get all the high end Martins, nice Martin D42 for any recent lotto winners and a really tasty mahogany slothead D15S for fingerpickers which is hard to put down. If he gets in a coffee machine, there's a risk that you could end up dropping in on Saturday morning and not leaving until he turns the lights off.

Great to see a new small business up and running and doing well, staffed by gear-heads for gear-heads, wish it continued success.

Does anyone know if these guys at Jimi's buy Bass guitars. I have a 1980 Aria Pro II SB1000 4 string bass in really, really good condition. It's the one with the neck built through the body. Some Japanese guy was selling one for over €2000 on Ebay recently. I know that might be a bit optimistic but if anybody knows where I can get a good price for this and around what price I should expect I'd appreciate any input. It's been sat in it's case for years as I bought it in 1994 to play bass in a friends band to help him out. It all fell through in six months but I still had the bass and a few good memories! Any help appreciated.

Jimi and Dave are two great guys . They both know their stuff . from amps to guitars and basses . Great selection of stuff but only one lefty....

Got my amp serviced there for dirt cheap and in only 2 days .

    They do take trades also.

    Great shop.

What's the easiest way to get to Jimi's by public transport? I'd like to check it out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 638 ✭✭✭LpPepper

Depends , I usually get the 56 or 56a from the square . Only costs a euro each way

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 985 ✭✭✭Miklos

Yeah either that or Red Cow Luas and a bit of a stroll..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 638 ✭✭✭LpPepper

Will from now on go to Jimi's instead of Xmusic . Xmusic never have 10 gauge D'addario's , ever ... Just got my 1983 Westone Thunder set up by Dave there and he done an excellent job .. cleaned all the gunk from the board and polished the frets , setup , cleaned the crackly electronics ...

Also was buying a 2nd set of strap locks but was going to use the same strap for both my guitars and Dave just gave me the strap buttons and went half price , no other shop would do that!

    Cool guys...
