PS3 Disk Read Problem

    Hi all,

I have my PS3 since launch day.

Was playing away perfectly lastnight. Went to use it today and it won't read any discs. All the discs are perfect - no scratches.

When I insert a disc I get the little circular icon on the top right of the XMB for a few seconds and then nothing!!

Do I have to bin my PS3 :(:(:(

When you say it won't read any discs, have you tried a DVD and a CD and see if any of them will play? It's a good check to see if your drive is gone or if it's just corrupt firmware/HDD.

Your drive might be broken, but you can get it repaired easily enough (e.g. consolerepairsireland.ie).

That being said though, what you are describing happened to me ages ago and turned out to be caused by a corrupt hard drive. So before you send your PS3 off to be repaired, do a full format of your hard drive (not the quick format, I know a full format can take about 4 hours but it's worth it if it fixes your problem.) Make sure you back up your game saves first!

As GothPunk said, it could be a corrupt hard drive. It could also be "BluRay Of Death". Here are two threads about the latter:

Console Repair Ireland fixes that as well, but like GothPunk said, check to see what's wrong before sending it off. Try playing any discs you can think of (CD, DVD, PS3 game, BluRay). If it doesn't read any, then it could be BROD

    Thanks for the advice lads.

I ran a quick format and it's working fine since!
