We have a proper club. We have singlets. We have a depth of experience. Dammit we even have Woddle!

So why haven't we organised a race yet?

Good point was something that I've been thinking about too, There are a few little thigns that we need to have done in the next week or 2 but once that is done I dont see any reason why we wont have a race or a Club CC sometime soon :).

Lets have a club race the same day as teh Paris Marathon ;)

To be honest I'd also like to get a track for an evening or day during the summer to run a Club CC can invite guests also to fill events where needed..

Oh and maybe we could have a race day where there are like three different levels of races, one for beginners, one for intermediate and one for elite. That way us beginners won't feel so slow! :p

Oh and another quick question! I think I might have missed it being posted somewhere but is there a link where we can see the new singlets and order?

Good idea alright Amadeus. We had an offer of help from the bhaa if we ever wanted to stage a race, they have a car/van kitted out for such an event. We have a board meeting tomorrow so we can bring it up on the agenda aswell as other things. A race would def be a good idea. At the moment I'm trying to get as many boardsies out for the Cork relay. We currently have 2 teams made but why not get more.

The relay is a great idea. I'd like to do it but I can't justify a hotel for a relay and teh race starts at 9.

It would be nice to do a handicap 10k, like smcgui says, that way everyone is in with a shout.

if so, is there a Chairman?
And if so, is he The Chairman of the Boards...? ;)

Does Eamon Coughlan know about this.......

For now I have that title ;) but I certainly didn't earn it like super Eamon :D
There is a board in place.
    Chairman Woddle
    Club secretary Peckham
    Board member MarieC
    Mens captain shels4ever
    womens captain Seres

We also have 2 fantastic coaches in Hunnymonster & Amadeus who we have yet to utilise

We're going OT but I suppose that's part of teh reason I was looking at doing those marathon training weekends, need to think about how we can coach online.

(btw MCOS I moved your post to teh Cork Relay thread)

There will be a race to launch the club. Whether or not it's our own race, or we latch onto another event is yet to be decided. Most importantly there'll be a bit of a party afterwards to confirm the social aspect of our club. Details to be decided, and opinions welcomed.

Will also be looking into meet and train sessions.

Amadeus, I suggest doing it a bit like they do on McMillan Elite: As a coach you can contact them privately (email, telephone, in person, private message etc.) and then you can keep a coach's log in the Training Logs section where you can keep the general public up to date on the strategies and sessions that you're prescribing. And each athlete can keep his own log individually (like most of them seem to be already).

Maybe in the future you can make it more visible online, but surely the first priority is to get the athletes coached.

As an AAI affiliated club (now doesn't that have a nice ring to it!!!) if you are organising a race that is open to all i.e. not just confined to AAI registered athletes within Dublin, then you will require a permit issued from AAI Head Office. The cost of the permit is €35.00 and the route would have to be accurately measured (for a road race). The event also could not clash with a similar event within a 50 mile radius. Meath clubs find it hard to find Saturday/Sunday dates that are free and have recently taken to running events during the week.

There are plenty of other races you could attend as a club, and avoid the hassles involved in organising and just enjoy the event.

To add to Meathcountysec - it can also take a bit of a lead time to get the course measured as it needs to be an IAAF official - then there is the Garda permission that is required if on open road, they generally need to see AAI permit before they can 'assess' their ability to support. Its not generally a problem but requires a bit of a paper trail and visits to the station.

Have a lovely 5k event in 6 weeks time into which you could incorporate the inagural event as a separate competition. Also can dicsuss supporting track event if sourcing a track is an issue.
