I absolutely love this stuff and im almost finished the box! Its Moroccan Mint Green Tea by Dilamh, Mocha Beans here in Galway used to see the Dilmah/Tea Time Rocks stuff but recently they have discontinued this line of tea and have gone with another company.

Any idea where I could get it locally? Or equivalent in a supermarket or healthfood shop? I checked the dilmah online shop but the page to purchase didnt seem to be working at the time, and didnt see the cost so dont want it to be too expensive either!

Edit: Just Checked website there, actually couldnt find the tea atall and it would also appear they only sell in bulk boxes of 6 and i sont want to buy that much!

Would any of these do? 1 2 3. I've ordered from these guys a lot and my order always arrives quickly -I make a point of ordering on the weekend and I always get it within the week, sometimes as early as Wednesday.
There's an Irish site too, that has something along the lines of what you're looking for and they take Laser which is handy if you don't have a credit card. I've never ordered from them though, so I can't vouch for their service. It's a flash site, so I can't give you a direct but just go to the homepage, click on "Tea shop" and then "Scented Tea" and "Tea a la Marrakesh" is the thirteenth on that page.

Edit: Wait, here's a direct link: thirteen down

I suppose self-mixing individual helpings of green and peppermint tea wouldn't work! :p

Seriously though, what does this taste like? I love green and peppermint so on that unscientific basis I think I might like this too. :)

Ouh I wants that! Come back with details if you do find it in another brand. Please?

well i love mint tea but i dislike green tea so i dont think mixing would work! i cant describe how nice this stuff is! Its probably like three parts peppermint to one part green! because its like a slightly stonger mint tea! its so lovely!

That African one seems close enough, think i may order both and il have a taste test and get back to you all!!!!

Something I've been meaning to try is putting fresh mint into a pot of black Ceylon a little before serving, I think it could be very good. The OP is looking for a blend of Ceylon green tea with mint which would be a different thing again. The tea in the blends I've linked to above will be Chinese green tea rather than Ceylon, so they won't be exact matches. If you wanted to make up a blend yourself you could get Ceylon green tea which, according to Wikipedia "[has a] fuller body and [a] more pungent, rather malty, nutty flavour" than other green teas and mix that with either peppermint tea or dried peppermint from the herb rack in the supermarket or go the whole hog with fresh. Getting your hands on Ceylon green would be the problem though, I've never seen it, you will get it from Dilmah, but then you run up against the same problem of having to order a case of twelve, which is stupid. I don't know why that's the minimum order.

Lyon's do a green tea with mint according to their website. And I could have sworn Twinings did the same thing, but they do have "after dinner mint" on their website, which throws cocoa beans into the mix for good measure... actually it doesn't say whether it's black or green tea in that blend, so it's probably black tea, with peppermint and cocoa beans.
I'd say you'd find the Lyon's one in any decent size supermarket.

The shelf life of the fresh mint leaves i get from Dunnes seem to have a very short life span, i imagine its because origin of product is Israel! Thats a bit of a journey alright! Would i be able to get fresh mint leaves at a local farmers market d you think? I love fresh mint-leaf tea. Smell alone is refreshing! My friend adds sugar to hers when she makes it but i prefer it as is.
    :)

I couldn't say either way about the likelihood of seeing it at your farmers' market, I wouldn't be very surprised if you did nor if you didn't. You could ask in the Galway forum. As summer comes on you'll stand more and more chance of getting Irish-grown mint, surely. You can get loads of it at this nursery in Dublin, apparently but that's not much good to you.
You might get longer out of the Israeli mint if you separated it out into lots the size you'd use for each cup of tea, and store them all separately in ziploc bags in the fridge. You might try refreshing them before you pack them up, though, like you would cut flowers, standing them in water, or just submerging them leaves-and-all in cold water for a little bit until they look a bit healthier. There's a few threads on mint, and fresh herbs and the kindest ways to refrigerate them.
If this is a tea you want to enjoy every day, though, the price of all those little boxes of mint all the way from Israel will add up! Not to put ideas in your head or anything but I hear mint is one of the easiest herbs to grow. :D One step fresher again, when you're making your tea, plucking some leaves and putting them in the pot -with a dash of Ceylon for a kick!

How do you make the tea from the fresh mint?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,160 ✭✭✭✭banshee_bones

    Rinse leaves in cold water.

Place desired amount of mint leaves in mug / tea pot

    (add sugar if desired)

    Add hot water

    Bingo! Mint Tea!

    Yummy!
