Archos 605 - Video Formats

    Any 605 owner out there? I really like the product spec but cant determine from, what I have read whether it will play AVI files.
    I use bit torrent to download video files, and mostly they arrive as AVI files. I would like to avoid having to convert them to another format.

    Out of the box, it will play the most common avi files - ie avi/xvid/mp3

    Avi files can contain audio other than mp3 though, AC3 for example, and you'll have to pay extra for the privelage of playing those.

    i got mine recently, its brilliant. i did however buy the extra codecs (bit cheeky of them) but it saves converting any files, and plays all my different video files. brilliant device.

    On a separate note, anyone know if the dvr station will record off the sky box. i've a few things recorded, and on the sky box i want to save, and this would be a handy way of doing so if it worked.

    Found a few from apparently reputable sellers on eBay but worried about guarantee justy in case something goes wrong!! According to some reviews on this product, there have been some problems!
    Full retail price seems very high!

    I wouldn't pay full retail price, since it's an old product.

    A 60GB Archos 5 (the newer model) can be had for €250ish, so I would only go for a 605 if it was at a nicely reduced price.

    I was really taken with the 605 - now I have looked at the 5 and it is GREAT!!
    You are right - the 605 is old hat! Just have to find the extra dosh!! :)
