Killzone 2, a little short?

Just finished Killzone 2 last night and, as the thread title suggests, wasn't it a tad short?
I mean, honestly, I played it on normal and flew through it.
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it whilst it lasted, aside from the cheap bullet spong final boss, but where is the rest of the game?
Oh, I know where it is, it's going to be sold to me in 2 years for another €60.

I mean, I found it a tad insulting, 5 hours of gameplay and old fashioned gameplay at that, "go there and man a turret", "go here and set these charges", "go some other place and turn a switch" and finally the world famous "don't go anywhere and hold out against waves of enemies for the next 10 minutes".

Nope, won't be buying the sequel brand new, will wait for pre-owned or at least for it to be heavily discounted.

As for the joys of multiplayer, no thanks, tried it and didn't have much time for it.

Overall, should've bought Fear 2 instead, I'd still be playing it at the very least.

Can't say I agree with your opionion of the game.
The single-player was around the same length of most FPS released in the last 2 years, same as COD4, short single player but intense action for all of it.
It took me around 8 hours to finish the game according to the game timer. Can't say it breezed through it even on meduim difficulty, I died many many times especially on the last level attacking the Palace.

MP is simply amazing IMO. I'm in the boards.ie clan and its a brilliant fun as a team game.

Depends on what you would classify as short. As ongarite has already said, it lasts as long as any other FPS title of late. (Also, who plays games on Medium!?)

    Oh... :pac:

Play it on Hard (or Elite). That is where the AI shows what it can do. I guarantee you will not clear it in 5 hours.

Again, compare KZ2 to COD4, COD5, Halo etc. and you'll see that that is pretty standard across the board. What KZ2 excels at though is keeping the intensity up through those hours, with little to no filler in between.

Honestly, if Halo 3 and consisted of the multiplayer and the two Scarab fights in single-player, I would have gotten as much if not more out of it.

Opinions are never wrong, but some certainly are strange. The multiplayer is very well-made and thought out. The clan support is better than anything else on a console and the integration with www.killzone2.com is brilliant (watching previous multiplayer games to see where you went right/wrong etc.)

The transition to and from game modes, all in one session, streamlines the experience and keeps the games hectic.

Ah... I would rent FEAR 2. Based on your issues with KZ2, I have a feeling you may be disappointed in it.

I too was a bit disappointed in the length of KZ2 but thats because I was enjoying playing this game so damn much. I was sorry that it was over as the sheer intensity of the battles got the adrenaline going - the enemy AI was close to playing against human opponents. Haven't even tried the mp yet as I'm going through the single player mode again to get all the intel etc for my trophy collection and to hone up the skills before I go online.

I dithered over buying this game or FEAR 2 as I loved the FEAR games when they came out on the pc but imo Killzone 2 was worth the money and is far superior to the likes of COD WAW. I will definitely buy the sequel. Now if only Aliens Colonial Marines wasn't put back to 2010 I'd be a real happy bunny.

Yeah, i'd have to say, I finished it last night, and played it through on veteran, and found it to be of satisfactory length, there wasn't a moment on it where I htought this is boring or even repetitive. Sure it follows a fairly standard FPS formula, but it works.
Started playing it through on easy so as to get the 'Untouchable' rophy, then I'm going to give it a shot on Elite to get the Heroic survivor one! The trophy aspect is definitely well employed by this game, and as for the Multiplayer, I've already put in at least ten hours and I'm planning to join a clan! The system for the multiplayer is brilliant and so far, it's much more engaging than COD4!
With the potential hours to be got out of it, Killzone 2 is definitely worth the €54 I spent on it! (thank you HMV student discount!)

Well, as for these games all lasting 5 hours or so, maybe, I breezed through Halo 2 on normal so went back and played on harder difficulty, much better, also played Halo 3 on the harder level and it was far superior, that said I found those games much more enjoyable, varied and less clunky.
Visualy Killzone 2 certainly ticked all the boxes, loved the flamethrower, found myself using the same 2 guns all the time and thought the turret section sucked, the mech bit was a laugh though.

Nothing in it was better than Gear Of War 2 though, not trying to turn this into a PS3 vs Xbox360 debate but GOW2 was simply better all round. Better story, better atmosphere, the enviroments better realised, from stomy train yards to snow swept mountains, from derelict research labs to crumbling metropolis', the world of GOW2 simply seems bigger than that of KZ2.

Ah well, the game is traded in now, I'll pick it up in a year or two when I'm consolidating my PS3 games library, as I have with every other console I own, 40 odd machines I have now.

I understand where you are coming from, especially regarding GOW2, but I have to disagree.

KZ2 is short, no denying it, even if it is following a trend currently being set by most FPSs. IMO it offers more pound-for-pound entertainment than the average shooter. Mostly due to the changing environments and freakishly intelligent AI, the experience doesn't get boring. Each battle truly seems unique, with different flanking options and dangers.

As for the comparison to GOW2, I cannot agree. GOW2 is a crap story, whose only shining light is one scene (you know the one!). The environments are well-made but the level design is not exactly revolutionary (each level has a section to split up - it becomes a bit tedious). While I won't say KZ2 is much better, it certainly isn't worse.

Out of curiousity how much did you get for trade in?

Why is it we feel the need to compare Killzone 2 with Gears of War 2 anyway? I have yet to play Gears of War 1/2 so maybe someone can explain to me why it always comes down to a GOW2 v K2 comparison. Is it just the PS3/360 thing, or do they have similar stories/themes/art direction etc?

Anyways I don't have a problem with how short Killzone 2 is, especially considering how brilliant the multiplayer in the game is. I definitely got my monies worth. In fact I'm loving the fact that games are shorter nowadays - I don't have as much time to game as I used to so it's great to be able to actually finish a game and feel entertained the whole way through instead of playing a game that starts to re-use level layouts and get a little repetitive half way through.

Also, play the game on Veteran (switching to normal difficulty if you have to at the end), it's a much better game for it.

Tbh the two games are completly different, Killzone is FPS and Gears of War is TPS I feel there is a massive difference between these genres of games but FPS games are better and play better, but there still is some good TPS out there like Uncharted and Resident Evil 5, aint played GoW 1/2 but have watched someone play it alot!
