Receipt from Housemate for Bills Paid

    Can anyone advise me?
I have found myself living with an extremley difficult housemate. There are four of us sharing, three of us get on brilliantly and the fourth is making everything difficult. She was living in the house when we moved in so has her name on 2 bills. We discovered that the previous tenants had trouble settling bills with her, not to mention when we moved in she took our deposit, lodged it into her bank account and didn't give it to the landlord. We were only notified 2 months after the fact by the landlord.

So many other things are going wrong but 2 days ago I paid her cash for the gas bill as it is in her name. I asked her for a receipt to say I have paid my share but she refuses. I asked her to return the money so that I could lodge it into her account and have a record of it on my bank statement but she also refuses.

Can anyone advise me on what to do?

Seems she may have rented the house from the landlord, and is subletting the house to you?

Try asking the landlord should you transfer the money to them, or to her, and see what the landlord says?

We all signed the lease when it came up for renewal, regretting it now!
The landlord wants to leave it to us to sort out the bills.

She clearly can't be trusted with money so don't give her cash. Pay her by cheque or direct transfer - if the bills go unpaid the companies will come after her and/or the landlord.

I work for an energy company and we are forever coming across cases like this, one where one person puts themselves in charge of bills doesnt pay them then leaves with your money.
Id ask to get the bills changed!!
