    hey everyone.

    ya im a complete newbie.
havnt got anything yet. not even of age for it :P

im taking up airsoft skirmishing as soon as i have time and can afford it (ill be 18 then)

i have read a few things and know starting as a sniper mightnt be a good idea but i'm stubborn.

my goal is to get a well L96 primary weapon. a galaxy MP5K as a secondary.

tac gear wise to start off im thinking of just top and pants camo (Royal Irish Regiment if i can), beanie hat, boots, safty (airsoft standard) glasses, an EB Snipers Waist Pack i spotted on ebaybanned and maybe a leg holster for the MP5K

think this would be an ok starting point?

please with reply with your opinions and maybe any suggestions.
    thanks for any replies.

    Tom,

I'd advise getting out and getting a skermish or two under your belt, i thought i'd be more sniper than anything turns i prefer being in the middle of things going crazy.

Personally i think there is not a huge amount of difference bewteen bolt action and aeg in ireland as max is one joule (328 fps with 0.2 gramme)

Its up to you but if you get out you will see a lot of diffrent weapons out there and most people i've come across are all ok with some random stranger hold and firing off a couple of rounds from there AEGs

i understand the idea of trying out a skirmish or two first. its logical.
but money is an issue for me so im thinking of buying the L96 first.

i do have plans to purchase a JG Steyr AUG Military in the future.

You gotta start somewhere... and this is a good start.

    However, personally I'd say:
Try get yourself out to a skirmish site and try out/have a look/hold/shot etc.
It might change your perspective regarding the type of AEG and game style you want.

The first proper airsoft device I bought was a JG BAR10. I thought - yep, I'll have that (being an old slow git) and let the battle come to me...
    Never even skirmished it once.

Got me an M4 and never looked back.
To be an airsoft sniper takes a certain type of individual... not everyone can do it and even fewer can do it well. Not saying you wouldnt be great but just try before you buy...;) (unlike me)

All the gear you've listed is spot on. Think about the BAR10 - from the point of mods or upgrades - it's a cracker as it's an exact clone of the TM VSR.

With regard to the boots etc. - try get as good a pair as you can afford. Worth it in the long run.
The Mp5K is a great little AEG - I love it. The Galaxy one is fantastic and a great price. Personally I'd just get a sling and throw it over your shoulder. Leg holsters for it are mmm, well I've yet to see one work well and be used consistently (open to correction).

The TM socom Mk23 is deadly and seems a favourite among snipers I know.

The EB snipers waist pack is a good investment - you can use it anywhere and in any role.

Really suggest you try get out to any of the excellent airsoft sites around the country before you decide to part with your money.
    (Perhaps you already have...?)
Most guys at the sites will be more than happy to impart their experience and knowledge to you if you just ask.

Dont be put off by all the camo and gear - it can be really intimidating and wierd when you first see it, but it's just mad crack and a bit of fun for lads and lassies that ought to know better.:P

There's loads of guys here who can further advise you better than I can... but you're heading the right way.

Best of luck and welcome to the world of boards.ie and airsoft.;)

Look into getting one of the new dboys metal m16s maybe, and a scope for it.

They are new, but the retailers here should have them soon, you can ask in their section, and being a long rifle would be grand for sniping with a scope.

Sniping in airsoft isnt like in real life, you have as much accuracy and range as an aeg, which will spray off 40 bbs while you'd fire 1 and reload.

Get an aeg first, or maybe an mp5k pdw instead of the mp5k, it has a folding stock, and a few mags for that, as they can be used as a main gun if you are definitely into getting a sniper rifle.

    Thanks for those lads.

If im to take your advice, maybe ill get the steyr aug first. Get a decent scope on it and after a few skirmishs use it in a sniper role.
    How does that sound?

And i wont be getting the dboys m16. Im not a massive fan of m16s. Mainly based on looks.

Ok, performance wise the Aug is a great choice. You suggested the military version below. An important note on that, you cannot change the sight on an A1(Millitary) Aug, you must change the whole receiver. The A2 looks a little less polished but has a rail instead for mounting a scope.

Also, not everyone can use Augs, some people just cant stand how you shoulder them, being BULLPUP(Mag behind trigger) they feel quite different to your average Armalite or AK. I'd suggest go in-store, dont buy it online. You'll be able to see a display model in the shop and give it a good going over:)

Oh thanks for that or id have ordered the wrong one.
Ill just have to give it a paint job.

i have shouldered a real steyr before and didnt really find a problem with that. Also, as this is my first aeg im not used to any yet so ill probly be able to adapt easily enough

Thanks again for the info on the model. That would really have annoyied me.

haven used a mates one several times i have to agree 100%, id take one over the usual ak or M4 simply because i find the set-up comfortable and it looks the part also.
