The title really says it all.

Do I need to get a Cycling Ireland License if I want to do some of the sportives over the summer? I don't wish to join a club at present so can I get a license without being affiliated to a club? Did try their website but it just sends me round in circles without actually answering the question. Pathetic website it has to be said. All the news items have last years date on them  Calendars show nothing. You click links expecting to get something and you end up at the main section page. Very frustrating.

Ahh thanks. Might be the easier option in that case. So I take it by that some do need a license however some do not.

most of the big sportives ya dont need a license e.g. sean kelly tour, wicklow 200. some of the club organised ones you need a license for them for insurance reasons but usually organisers dont ask for it.

If you do need a 1 day, they cost a tenner.

thought they were 15 as thats what they do be at mtb and cx events

and ci have removed the online registartion for 2009 licences as they were back logged with them

so you have to apply in writing

I only ever paid a tenner for road events.

Are you serious? Surely processing an application that comes in on writing ie having to enter all the details on to the computerised database that they almost certainly use must surely be more time consuming than having the person fill the forms in themselves online.

Seems like they are trying to put people off joining. Is that really the sort of governing body you all want?

I joined the ranks of the Vets last week and have "Basic Membership" and "Insurance Cover"
What exactly does the insurance cover?

Yes you can join CI as an unaffiliated member.
Most sportif's don't request of ask for CI membership.
I'll check the regs and give a definitive answer when I get time (shouldn't even br posting at the moment:eek:)

You can join CI as an unaffiliate, but imo, it's not worth the cost. My numbers are off, but you save money on the license as a club member, and often the cost of joining the club is less than the difference, so it can be worth joining for the cost saving

CI non competative membership for first time members is €10 for the year.
This gives you public liability cover while on the bike plus medical to the value of €2500 including dental.
Other benifits are a bike insurance scheme which is €100 premium and cover up to 7 grand for damage and thieft

If you are an existing member it's €35 for non competative membership with €10 for a one day race licence and for Sportives organisers normally include 1 day ci cover in the cost.

The only time you are likely to be asked for your card is when signing on for races

There you go, Clear as mud!!
