10,000 for a used car

The wife's car has just died and I'm going to have to buy her a new one.

She's loved the Nissan X-trail since they came out so I'm tempted to pick up one. Not my cup of tea but reliable and cheap enough to run, bar the tax.

So if a dealer was asking 10,000 for a 04, 2.2 Diesel, realistically what will he take for a straight cash deal.

They seem way over priced but it's what she wants

Who's to say what is a fair offer these days, he may let it go for €8K or maybe he has cut it to the bone to sell it for €10K. Best bet is to look around, make a low offer and go from there, one thing is certain, you will get a good deal from someone.

X-Trails are hard to sell so there should be plenty of room for haggling.
