    Hi,

    I bought a 2006 BMW 520D Auto and last night the accelerating power went. There is enough to get me around but the car is lacking a missive amount of power. No warning lights are showing up on the OBC. Any ideas, apart from bring it to a garage which I'm trying to do tomorrow?

    Has a brake caliper locked onto one of the discs?

    Is your auto in limp mode? Should be a warning light ion the dash if so.

    Hi, no warning lights are visible on the dash. No black smoke from the exhaust either. It's my first time driving an automatic but it doesn't feel like it's a transmission problem. Could it be filters?

    You haven't got it in snow mode by any chance. Starts off in 3rd gear for icy conditions.

    Nope, that's not it either. The car changes through the gears, just with barely enough power to get the revs up to the next gear change. I was reading somewhere about resetting an automatic gearbox but I really don't think that's it. Could the turbo go with no other symptoms other than the loss of power, bearing in mind there are no warning lights and no black smoke from the exhaust. It seems unusual because it happened while driving.

    I hope the warning lights haven't been physically removed.

    Seems like bmw's are well known for blowing turbo's. Not saying that's you're problem. Here's a good site with lots of info.

    Thiere are some strange suggestions here so;

    1. There's no distributor cap on a diesel nor on most petrol's for the last ten years.
    2. Black smoke does not equal turbo, blue smoke might.

    A Diesel low on power without a warning light - I reckon it's a MAF. There was an extensive thread recently about someone who bought an e39 530d that was very low on power ... ended up being a maf.
