Cheers Corcaioch for the memory. My dad brought me to that match and eventhough the Kingdom didn't win, I still had one amazing day :D . I was a young 'un at the time but still :)

I remember being on holidays in Miltown Malbay that weekend and it was some celebration and it was a doubly successful weekend for my Dad that weekend as Donegal won Ulster on their way to winning their only AI title.

Met the team on the Monday night, sound bunch of lads.

A friend of mine called for me the morning of the game and he was mad to go , I was a bit dubious of travelling the 20 odd miles to see us hammered, went along anyway and what a day!!
It was obvious after 10 - 15 mins that Clare were on form and Kerry couldn't get going and the Clare crowd chanting "who the **** is Jacko" was hilarious. The team went to Kearneys bar in Ennis on the Monday night and the whole town was there, John Maughan was a rockstar.
A great day and the semi final against Dublin was fantastic - at least 40,000 people from Clare in Croke park the atmosphere was amazing and we were only narrowly beaten too. A ball off the cross bar and a dubious refs decision betwen us.
Tom Morrissey decked Charlie Redmond and Clare played for 3 minutes with 16 men!!
Some crack that year in Clare and the following couple of years Clare were quite competitive beating Cork with a ridiculous goal from Martin Daly.
It laid the foundation for the hurlers in 95 to go on.

Was in Clones that day, we had just beat the national league champs and with 14 men, yet it was nearly forgot about that day as Clare beating Kerry got the headlines everywhere(understandably so).

Was going to Portugal on holiday Saturday before Clares AI semi against Dubs and remember aer lingus plane taxiing in to its stand with Clare flag hanging out the cockpit:eek: Was told it was a plane with the Clare team which had flown up from Shannon.

    UP THE BANNER

Its not too often that Clare beat Kerry ..was in the Gaelic Grounds that day .fantastic...and Croke Park for the semi final ..

One of the good days....but does anyone remember the few bad days

The Miltown Massacre of 1981 Kerry beat Clare that day by 9-21 to 1-9.
    ...was at that one too

Kerry tightened up their defense after that ...Clare were the team that scored the most against them that year in any championship game ...

Kerry went on to win the All - Ireland - the Four in a Row ...never got to 5 - wont mention Seamus Darby

Oh man I just flashed back to my 11 year-old self sitting in the covered stand that day wondering "Why aren't Kerry pulling away from them? We're not going to lose, are we?"

Also remember some idiot from Killarney who my dad knew, sitting behind us and abusing Jacko for the entire second half. Bad times.

Some day for Clare though, this kind of match is what makes the GAA so special.

That was Jacko's last game for Kerry if I remember correctly? Sad way to go out for a legend.

Spillane was sitting next to Marty Morrissey in the commentary box in Limerick that day, holding a sick bag:D

I can remember this match as a young lad but was not at it. My father was and came home saddened and remarked that the great Kerry era was finally over. He went to the Semi-final and still says that the referee on that day cost Clare an All-Ireland as they would have beaten Dublin only for the Ref. Amazing how times have changed compared to the Clare team who Kerry played last year who seemed totally focused on maiming or killing any Kerry players they could and gave us the "Paul Galvin V Wasp" incident. I will also never forget the clare 1995 hurling All-Ireland and the absolute delight at Offaly being beaten not so much Clare winning. And of course Ger Loughnane we will play it again so Offaly can beat us.
