What can I do?

I was seeing a guy for a while and we broke up last week. I asked him the day after to to post me jewelery I left at his house and he said he'd already posted it that morning. So I deleted him from my bebo etc because I really just wanted to cut contact with him as it was a bit messy and I was feeling lousy about it all.

However, come Friday it still hadn't arrived, so I had to call him. Of course he didn't answer - so I text - and he replied a fair while later saying he defo posted it with the correct stamps and everything. Then the next day he told me he actually didn't post it til thurs so not to worry about it. I was pissed off but not surprised and just happy it was on the way.

Still hadn't arrived yesterday so I text him again, he said he checked in the post office and they had no info on it. He said he was at a gig and would call me later to discuss it, he was on msn when I logged in, so obviously not at a gig - more lies.

I told him today I was going to stop asking him about it as if he says he posted it there's nothing more I can do. To be honest, I really just do never want to talk to him again and its been hard having to keep in touch like this.

The jewelery was a bracelet my aunty got for me for my graduation, a bracelet my ex of 5 years got me, a ring from France and earring my best friend got me. Yes, it was expensive, but it really meant so much to me, especially the one from my aunty :(

My friend offered to call round to him for it but there is no point in that when he is adamant he posted it. So I don't know what more I can do

If anyone has any ideas place let me know 'cause I'm at a loss here :(

    Thanks

I had a similar situation once only it involved money which was meant to have been sent to me. I didn't accuse the person directly of taking the money, or not sending it to me, but merely mentioned - in a very friendly and civilised tone - that since it had 'gone missing' in the post and was of value to me, I would be getting the police involved to see if it could be found.

Lo and behold, the money suddenly turned up in the post 2 days later - Hallelujah, it's a miracle.

The thing is I guess its my fault for leaving it at this place in the first place. I have asked him if he's absolutely sure he posted it but he keeps saying he did. He's lied before though so I just don't know, seems very unlikely it would get lost.

Turn up at his place and get your stuff back.

If he's lied to you once then you cannot believe a word out of his mouth.

He is fobbing you off, you need to take control here.

Go and get your stuff back on point of principle.

But I know what he's like. Turning up there would get me nowhere, he'd tell me he posted it and simply accuse me of being paranoid and not trusting him.

He lives right next to his mam and I really don't want to turn up at this family home. Plus he's never freaking home anyway :(

Well you dont trust him and neither should you pretend to, as for paranoid feck him, it doesn't matter about that.

Well, he is not going to post it to you, so you need to do something. Is there anyone in the family with a spare key that you get on with that could go in and fetch the jewellery for you?

I text him and told him my housemate (a guy) was taking me around to his house to get it and that I knew he still had it. He replied saying he'd just picked it up from the sorting office. Lies - I 'd called the sorting office and it wasn't there. He said the postage date was proof he sent it on the 16th - I told him we broke up on the SEVENTEENTH!! so unless he was psychic he can't have posted it the day before.

There was no address written on the envelope either! And it was just a normal envelope not even padded. Aw I'm just so happy to have it back though. He;s text asking if I called round for it (his bro gave it to me) but I'm not replying, I never want to talk to someone like that again. Never thought anyone could lie so well and so easily.Feeling a bit naive now.

Thanks for the replies guys. I appreciate it

I'm glad you got your stuff back - especially that it was so sentimental to you.
It's hardly your fault you left it there, often after breakups there's stuff to be exchanged back. Doesn't always goes easily.
He should have just given you your stuff back when you asked, obviously he just wasn't that bothered, and probably would have done it eventually but as you were pushing he copped on and gave it to you.

You're done with him now though - you have them back, and he's now able to be out of your life. Horrible when someone lies but these things happen, he probably thought you'd back off for a bit & he'd get round to it at some point.
