The brits dont use VHF for analogue. Other bad news is afaik that LCD is mpeg2 which means you will not receive Irish DTT with it.

Thanks for prompt reply. I know that VHF isn't used in Britain, but many TV sets sold in the British market would have a VHF tuner; this definitely isn't one or them, then?

I'm pretty sure that this TV will have a VHF tuner (which gets disabled if you choose UK as your country, same as Sony). Can't be certain though, as the manual isn't available for download, however, I'm still pretty sure. The digital tuner integrated won't be any good for digital TV when launched here, but a seperate settop box would get around that.

    Found the manual:

Seems to confirm that it does have VHF/Cable tuner.

Thanks. Have looked at manual. How can you tell? On p. 11, under Storing Channels Automatically, it says, "You can scan for the frequency ranges available to you (and availability depends on your country)." Since VHF is not used in the UK, this leads me to think that a set bought in the UK might not have a VHF tuner.

If you set the country option to Ireland the firmware let scan the tuner also in the VHF range.

Yes, as maxg says. You'll be asked various questions when you first plug in your TV. Actually, with Samsung, even if you select UK as your country, it'll still scan VHF.

I bought it from Pixmania. It dosent give the option of ireland in the menu. you have to put in other as your country. I use uhf for terresterail(cairn hill) so cant confirm if it has vhf or not. a word of warning...The sound is dreadful from it...Unless you have seperate speakers, its like a tin can and the SRS trusurrond useless.
