    You mean €35.99 per branch?

Is the government going to pay me €35.99 to take each of their shares? Probably still wouldn't take them!! They'd just give me an IOU

On another note. Providence resources is a bit interesting. Oil prices have come back up to $50+ while at the same time they have high % of their production hedged at $100. Can't be a bad thing. Also expecting update on a new well in the next week! (hopefully it'll be good) Can't say i dont have shares in them though :) at least they've held up much better than my aib.....

Providence have been promising for the past 7 years. Great media presence (probably AJ OReilly) Good news comes every so often to reel in a few suckers...;) Better buy prize bonds.

i cant see that happening neither ,at the minute you could buy the 4 big banks and insurance companies for under half a billion going by the ise, and bank of ireland are advertising mortgages for as little as 800 per month . who in their right mind could afford that in this day and age

What are peoples thoughts on Paddy Power shares?

They are in a relatively recession proof industry, and profits are good for the year. Share is around €12.50 now, from a 12 month high of around €26.

    Appreciate any thoughts :D

I took up my full quota in the CRH rights issue at €8.40 and this morning they are trading at €16:D You gotta love the moxy of those guys, doing the biggest rights issue in Irish history at a time like this. This isn't a spectacular share but I haven't lost the mortgage money either.

I dont think its the correlation with the economy/building bust.... its just that there is less money around beinging invested in the ISEQ in general and heavy investors selling off shares e.g. Elan, to pay the banks back for other stupid investments they made. Thus share prices that have no connection or direct effect from the "recession" are indirectly effect by large sell outs and investors restructuring??? Does that make sense.!!

I'd go with any gold company in the HUI gold index

if the link below works , will show that the HUI index has out performed the Dow since the washout in Oct. ideally pick pure gold companies over ones that have exposure to silver or base metals and be aware of country risk. Although gold shares will generally follow the main markets the idea is that they will outperfrom on a net basis year over year
    going forward

(copy and paste , the finer points of linking etc. are lost on me ;-)

Elan sp is battered at the mo with their financial state. They have dire financial figures and with the plus billion sale of one of their technologies halted for economic reasons putting out buyers they are hugely dependent on a recovery.
Otherwise look for a takeover at a mediocre bid even by Biogen.

INM being advertising dependent Im sure are affected by economy

Well I like Lamprell, Aviva, Redhall and Asian Citrus Holdings, Accsys and RCG holdings. Would i invest in them now...............maybe Aviva but its still to early IMO.
I would invest in Coal of Africa, Faroe Petroleum, Afren and Nighthawk Energy.
For the cautious, an ETF in oil.

Another vote for Afren (AFR) and also big mention for Tanfield Group (TAN) if you believe that commercial depot based EV's are the future.

Looks like providence resources are on one of their non spectular runs of late, great PR merchants working there. No great news but has ran up to 6 cent hit a low of 2 cent earlier this year,

I agree no great news but at the same time a lot of small positives were bound to bring the price up from 2c. (http://www.energy-business-review.com/news/providence_resources_updates_on_gulf_of_mexico_operations_090421)
And assuming no more hurricanes i would expect 10c share price this year. I do concede that having O'Reilly has CEO helps with the positive press
