General Strike Monday 30th

Hi - looking for some advice on this one please.

Am booked to fly DUB-LHR-LAX on Monday March 30th with BMI.

Now it's looking more and more likely that there will be huge disruption at the airports on March 30th cause of this national strike. Airport might even be closed according to the papers.

Here's my question, if I fly to London on the 29th (have cheap tickets got for 29th DUB-LHR already just in case). Will I be able to check in for the 2nd leg of my trip at Heathrow, having "missed" the first leg?

All the flights are booked through on the one return ticket. Have rang BMI's office in Dublin who transfered me to a call centre, who weren't any help!

So any help here would be much appreciated !

Could you check in online for the first leg, even though you're not travelling? They might not appreciate you doing that though.

Generally if you miss the first leg, it means the rest of the ticket is invalidated.

I'm sending this over to travel.

OP, it is possible that if you no-show the first leg having checked in on it, you will be offloaded the second leg if they are on the same ticket.

Are both routes, DUB-Lon and LON-LAX the same airline?

I cant see why you couldn't do that. It's a seperate flight anyway.

Appears to be a single ticket judging by what the OP has said.

    Online check-in aint an option.

That's what I'm scared of...if i wait till the Monday and the airport is closed, i could lose a large proportion of my hol :( Been saving for this hol for a year now.

They are all booked though BMI...but fly BMI to LHR and Air NZ to LAX....all on the one ticket.

    Oh well :(

The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has been informed by SIPTU and Mandate that its members plan to take industrial action at Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports as part of ICTU’s national day of action next Monday, March 30.

SIPTU has indicated that its members at Dublin, Cork, and Shannon Airports plan to stop work between 4.00am and noon on Monday. Mandate members at Dublin and Cork Airports have also indicated that they will take industrial action on March 30.

The DAA is disappointed that union members have opted for this course of action, particularly as the company last week invited all union representatives to attend the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) to discuss the company’s deteriorating financial situation as a matter of urgency.

The DAA has informed staff that no decision will be taken in relation to the payment of pay increases under the national wage agreement until the company has concluded a major cost recovery programme, which is close to completion.

As the matter has been referred to the LRC, it is inappropriate at this time for union members to take industrial action that will seriously inconvenience tens of thousands of passengers.

The DAA urges its trade unions to attend the LRC talks and not to engage in any disruptive industrial action until this process is complete.

If the strike goes ahead, there will be no flights between 4am and 12noon...

Plenty of threads on this in Commuting/Transport and Politics too. worth having a read there too.
