i hav a bet with my mate since last august its for 50e,liverpool finishin ahead of united i was reluctant to do this bet, but he gave me 10/1 odds and been a gambler i liked them odds!! now im wonderin wit united down to 1/3 would i be foolish to lump on united? again this bet is just to finish ahead of eachother, but i think chelsea are pretty much gone, i still fancy united to win the league but would i be mad to throw a good bit on manu?or should i just keep praying united fck up!

I'm sure there are far more qualified people than me to answer this, but to guarantee similar winnings no matter the outcome you will have to bet around 380 or so on utd so you would only be guaranteed around 100 profit. Personally I'd let it ride as it is, or if you just want to make sure you get your original bet back and not make a loss put 150 on utd now so you either break even or get 350 profit.

    That's my unqualified opinion though.

Edit: that or lay liverpool on betfair I suppose for a max oultlay that I'm sure someone here can give you. Again, though, in this regard I must stress that I am not sure what I am talking about too much.

Let it run in my opinion.
As 5starpool says you would have to put ~€375 on MUFC to do a perfect cover, which would in theory guarantee you winnings of €80 or something like that.

However there are a couple of flaws.
    1. Its still possible that Chelsea or Arsenal could win the league. When you are thinking of covering bets (which is a very professional thing to do) you really shouldn't discount the chances of any other live contenders (this would be a very unprofessional thing to do).

    2. Will your mate actually pay up, in one lump sum, on time, with good grace if he loses.
My experience of these things is, unless they are escrowed, that the bet either gets downgraded to a fraction of the stake, or else gets paid in dribs and dabs with attendent bad feeling on one or both sides.

    +1

Judging by the odds your mate gave you he obviously never thought he'd lose so getting the money out of him might be a chore (and no one wants to hassle their mates over money)

    Assuming your mate pays up,

If liverpool overtake utd you make €500 profit.
So if you back utd to win the league for €413 at 1/3, you will make about €136 profit.

So if liverpool overtake utd that would be about €500 - €413 = €87 profit
    If utd win you make €136 - €50 = €86 profit.
If liverpool don't overtake utd, and chelsea manage to win the league you lose €413 + €50 = €463, even though this is unlikely.

You could also lay liverpool on betfair.
If you put about €155 on utd at 1/3, then if pool bet comes in you make about €345 and if utd bet comes in you break even (I think). You'd stand to lose €205.

Sorry if I messed up any of those calculations.

The bet (based on the first post) is that man utd will finish ahead of liverpool and vice versa.

Chelsea are irrelevant as are the other teams then.

If you're sure your mate will pay up then cover your bet i guess like they suggest above. Personally i'd just leave it as a 50eur bet and if it loses so be it, if it wins happy days. It's just a fun bet with your mate.

Just another few cent worth of thoughts from me.

Definitely leave it - not worth it - you would be covering to win around 90 quid plus you would be sick if Liverpool did finish above Man Utd after covering.

I think he means to back on utd to win the league though, not just to finish ahead of liverpool. I'm just assuming because I'm not sure if anyone is giving odds on liverpool finishing ahead of utd. And he said they were gone to 1/3, which is what Utd are to win the league on PP.

I could be wrong but if that's what he meant then there's an outside chance that it could finish Chelsea, Man United, Liverpool and both his bets would lose...

I'm confused. He has bet on Pool to win. You're suggesting he bet on Pool in case Pool lose?
