This started up again last night. This years programme looks very good. The teams as was the case last year are all intermediate. Some of them seem handy enough, getting to county semi finals, the Roscommon club for example. The Kerry club seem to be absolute muck, they said so themselves. It should be good anyway.
I'll predict George Hook and the Dublin club to win;)

That is just the preliminaries. The final will be held a day before broadcast in 2 months time. I'd also say the semi finals have not happened yet.

I really enjoyed this show last year, and from seeing the people in this years one it looks like a repeat. I reckon Ray D'Arcy's team (Rathangan) will be in with a shout of this years title.

Ya should be another good series. Cant wait to see George Hook taking over the training, id say there will be one or two strong words:D

I think George Hook has got to be the favourite. He's got a good knowledge of sport and has coached previously. It will be a good laugh watching that author trying to motivate the roscommon club. He looked like he didnt have a clue what to say when he first walked in the dressing room

As far as i know Cuala were already beaten by the Leitrim team so obviously Hook didnt have much of an effect! I didnt hear any of the other results but the team from Down look fairly good and it sounded on the program like Rathangan are a senior team so they should be favourites.

Waters (the Roscommon manager) seems very out of his depth here, far too quiet

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 coislifebliain6

I think those results show that the managers actually hav no effect whatsoever on there teams. It just depends on how good the players are. Im disappointed Hook lost as he would be great entertainment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,822 ✭✭✭tipp86

Managers = Nothing. Effort and skill of players is what matters.

Declan Browne has been doing most of the training with the tipp team in this to prepare.

Celebrity Banisteoir is just another way for some z-list celebrities to further their pathetic career and does little or nothing for the game as a whole, i mean fair enough you cant consider George Hook or Ray D'Arcy as z-list, but on the whole they are nothing entities in the world of GAA, but sure i suppose RTE has to fill it's Spring schedule somehow..

Saw some photos on the photography thread a while back, Ray Darcy makes his debut this week Oh and bids us farewell also:p. From what I remember Glasdrummin beat the Kildare side Rathangan? by a few points.

The series is a bit of crack and not about the celebraties its about local club players getting a piece of the limelight. Ordinary guys who might never wear and county jersey and they will produce better entertainment than the professional muck called soccer we see most weeks on the T.V. and better than any of the reality TV shows we have to put up with. imo. Roll on Sunday evening.
And remember the what it done for Nell McCafferty:o...... Nell the nude model:). There are a few nice Banisteoiri there this year, as for your woman Kathleen or Catherin Lynch. She will be great crack

Darcys team went out in the first game
beaten by Derek Davis's team from county down !
heard him on the radio giving out about the referee :pac:

Ah good Man Ray getting the Gaa Disease already for blaming the referee
The Show looks a lot better this year. They have Picked Good Celebs to Manage.
John Walters is the one Who looks like he may struggle.Im sure those Roscommon Lads we knock that quietness out of him

I remember watching last years show towards the end of it and loved it! So far this year its been just as entertaining! Have to say RTE have done a good job on getting a good mix of personalities for the managers!

Looking forward to the next episode!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭winter soldier

celebrity banister is just a load of cack. washed up "personalities" not good enough to be celebs who just want a few extra minutes of tv coverage. some of em dont even know anything about gaelic football. its about as entertaining as a kick up the hole.

The look of dissapointment on the Down side's faces when Derek walked in they were hoping for Kathryn or Andrea!

Not a fan of the show. How can a person get any respect when they do not even know the number of players on a team?

Not a fan of celebrity culture either.

When John Walters and Derek Davis walked in they were the 2 that the teams had no idea who they were.

Good first Show i taught .Rte have really improved it this year and even though we know most of the results i am looking forward to seeing all the games.

George Hook is doing his nut on this weeks show!

I think this evening's match showed that it's alot more about the team than the bainisteoir. Katherine Lynch is a great comedienne but she annoyed the hell out of me with her attitude. She tried to make a joke out of everything and it was hugely irritating at one stage.

Fair play to the Dromahair lads for still winning. That idiot from Cuala who got sent off must be cursing his luck.

Dont think Katherin Lynch is funny, she is the least funny person in the world. Agree with everything else.

Welcome back Lemlin, have not seen you here for a while.

Good match last night on it. Great win by Dromhair. Small club and all.
Taught hook came across as arogrant. He never even cheered when they scored!!!!!

i agree with you. Those people have to be in your face to make them feel important. Its easy to be a celebrity nowadays. Just get your mug on the television once or twice and have NECK

Well we won't get to see Andrea Roche parade the sideline in Parnell Park, but if last year's final is anything to go by, it should be a good night. Having been there last year, I got e-mailed a ticket, but it is free admission anyway. So who is going to go on Friday night?

Probably not making a song and a dance about it as the RTE program would be then ruined.

    well worth watching on sunday

Well, Go tell us - who won??:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

Well, if you really want to know:
    Glasdrumman 1 - 9
    Dromahair 0 - 11

It was the only time that they led in the whole match. They finished with 14 men a piece. They'd have won by a lot more bar some woeful shooting in the first half and trying to work the ball in too close. They missed a sitter of a free too. The lead up to their goal was quite something it has to be said. They were good out the field, but once they got in close they weren't. In the second half though, they began to take their chances and some of their scores came from a bit further out the field, as they should have been doing in the first half.

It was a good match. Watch it on Sunday. Dromahair had by far the better support. They played well too, and could easily have won it. There was some nice football played by both teams at times, but at other times you could see why they are just junior players. Plenty of excitement at the end. Good for the GAA. It's the second year and it seems to have worked well. It would be interesting to see them do it with Hurling teams.

I can predict it exactly as it was played last night but I won't. I will however advise watching it on Sunday as it's a cracker. The support for Dromahair was fantastic. Well done to both teams on what was an enthralling final and i don't even like inter county football nevermind Intermediate club football.

I wonder would they consider doing a season on hurling like the underdogs did?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

We've been talking about it in the Parnell Park Donnycarney thread, including the game last night. The result is in that thread. As you said, though for those that didn't go, it will be worth seeing on the television. I enjoyed it last night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭cruiserweight

Please use spoiler tags, some people may not want to know the result until they watch the show

Threads merged, no point in having two threads that are noew discussing the same thing
