I was wondering if any of you guys might have any idea how Dublin Airport will be affected on Moday 30th?

The DAA website doesn't say a lot, any idea if it will close completely or if it will just be a pain?

From what I can make out, there will be no flights between 4am and 12noon. The fire, police and security workers represented by SIPTU will not be working during those hours, so no planes can take off or land.

As far as I know, most of the air traffic controllers are in Impact, who voted not to strike, but I can't see them passing the SIPTU picket.

Tis a mess. Am due to fly myself on Monday for my holidays :(

As a matter of interest, maybe of no interest ,it's not a 'SIPTU strike, it's an ICTU strike.

I hope I'm right there.. Irish Congress of Trade |Unions strike.

    The whole lot out.

Davie won't let it happen, he's a Director of Aer Lingus.

    I hope you are right!

If it doesn't go ahead, I'd love to know what the level of absenteeism will be on the 30th!

They probably wanted it on Monday so they could all have a three day weekend.

It is of course an ICTU strike, my mistake

Ryanair today called for the Army to be drafted in to keep Dublin Airport open during next week’s planned national strike.
Michael O’Leary, the airline’s outspoken chief executive, demanded trade unions backing an eight-hour stoppage over the Government’s handling of the economic crisis be faced down. breakingnews.ie

Of course totally inpractical , but ( and I never thought I would hear myself say this )

    I agree with MOL !!!!!

I imagine there are practical reasons , such as licencing / trade skills that would mean thi scould never happen .

They should be trained and available for such a potential incident.

To strike under the current circumstances is an act of Treason.

Its one thing collecting rubbish and handing out water, its another thing running an airport, I don't think you can expect the defence forces to be trained for that kind of a scenario.

I think we've become used to strikes being called off at the last minute by now, but I can't see this one being called off as its not just the airports going on strike, its most of the public service. So given the context that the strike is taking place, I'd put my money on it going ahead.

Not really, you said the airport workers would bottle it and back down. If the national strike was going ahead they still would be too.

Two completely different things Jim, and personal attacks are against the charter of this forum, which merit bans. Keep it civil and professional please.

No they're not, they're one of the same. Regardless, where did I make any personal attack against him?! Unless you can point to any attack or insult I made towards anyone, don't be threatening me with a ban. Disagreeing with someone isn't the same as hurling abuse at them.

Sure come here when I said that everyone thought the national strike was going ahead, and that was the context the airport strike was taking place in. I still don't think the airport strike would've been cancelled if the other public sectors workers had gone ahead and striked.

Leave the matter be, and don't put words into other posters mouths in future.

Ffs they're one of the same, what else could he have meant by it?! Interesting as well to see you can't point to any insult or abuse I made towards anyone...

Putting words into other's mouths is abuse. Final warning.

Would ye come off it ffs, he couldn't have meant anything else by what he said! What else does saying "If I were a betting man I would say that this event will not take place" mean? Like when I say bottle it I'm not implying he meant any type of hostility towards airport workers, its just another way of saying they would've called off their strike, so I don't see why you're getting so hung up over it. I'm disagreeing with him that they would've called it off anyway, because as I said I think if the national strike had gone ahead they would've too. So how you can consider that abuse towards anyone is beyond me.

Again, not only cursing at me, but re-inforcing the fact that you're putting words in other's mouths. Enjoy the 2 week permenant* ban.

*ban upgraded after unbelievably abusive PM from user.
