There's no cup holder in my 01' 320CI E46, is it only in the saloons?

Its an optional extra in all 3 series models E46. In America I'm pretty sure they come as standard, its funny cause most Americans tend to replace the cup holder with the Eurotray (bit like our standard holder except has a rollover top on it). And most Europeans tend to go for the cup holder!

Anyway it is an OEM part, and should slot right in to replace the bog standard holder beside the handbrake.

It wasn't on the saloons either. Normally where this cup holder goes, there's a gulley with a rubber mat for oddments, or if you had it, that's where the Bluetooth telephone prep goes. This can be retrofitted alright though, the three part numbers refer to black, beige and grey.

Price from an Irish Dealer I phoned today to check was €33.

Thats not bad, the part generally gots c.$60-70 including shipping from America.

Can you name the dealer or PM? Looking to get this part over the coming weeks. Thanks!!

Try eBay and also the BMW breakers in the UK. Quarry, FAB direct etc. Ring them though, their websites aren't always up to date and they can be slow to reply to emails.

You know sometimes the Main Dealer prices for parts are not that scary. There is a lot of BMW stuff like wheel centre caps on EBay & other oddments that are actually much dearer than the main dealer.
If you use http://www.realoem.com you can even go into the dealer armed with the exact part number for the item you need. There are guideline $ prices on realoem too which will give you a ballpark idea of the price.
It is particularly useful if you are looking for that little plastic cover or cap or other oddity.

You can of course splash out on a copy of ETK on EBay too! ETK Is the exact system used by the people in the parts department.

Realoem.com is just superb. It's nearly identical to BMW's own part system.

So is it just a matter of slotting in the cup holder on top of the the existing coin tray?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

From what I can see in the diagrams, you pop out the coin tray, and install the cup holder in place of it.

The standard tray comes out in two parts. The longer front part first, then the little tray behind that. Just grip the sides near the front and pull it up. The cup holder comes with a little coin holder that goes in the small space, mine did anyway, (99% useless as it's under my armrest!) and the double cup holder pops into the front space. No tools needed, a 1 minute job.

Edit: Ned, I think the cup holder is a different length to the original tray, so the two parts come in the kit.

When you have the part numbers from realoem you can go here to get the UK prices...
