Make a PS2 device work via USB adapter with a Mac?

I have an excellent trackerball that's about 8 years old with a PS2 connection. I have just 'upgraded' from Windoze to an iMac, which of course is all USB's. I got a PS2 to USB connector but the iMac can't detect the trackerball. It works with any other PS2 (Windoze) machine. Any ideas for me?

Have you tried searching for Mac drivers for the trackball?

In general I haven't, I guess I have been think like a drone on that, assuming maybe that a Found new hardware[\i] wizard would pop up upon having the trackerball inserted. Considering the device's age, I doubt I'll find one, but I'll look.

    Try something like Steermouse:

    Hi there,

I tried Steermouse with no effect. The problem, as above, is that the mouse, a Microsoft IntelliMouse Trackball:

...is a PS/2 device. Now, I do have a USB adapter, but the problem is that the iMac won't detect it at all. I found a few emulator-type downloads but none of them can make this device work. So far, I can't find a Mac driver for it either. It is an old device, intially only having Win95/98/Me drivers, but still works fine on 2000, XP and Vista (the latter via the USB interface).

It would be great if I could find a solution...

I dont know much about Macs, but at the end of the day, its basically a unix system.

unplug the mouse, open a terminal, plug in mouse, in the terminal, type in "dmesg"

paste the bottom 10 or so lines up on here.

The mac wont let you execute the command. Using Sudo will give you the rights to execute the command, then paste the details it shows.
