I am going to need a clutch change pretty soon on my beetle. The car is parked on the street (no garage) so I am not really in the position to remove engine and change it myself.

Just wondering how many hours work I should expect to pay a 'pro' for this.

a pro should have it done and dusted in an hour and a half max (maybe even quicker). An amateur a bit longer. Where in the world are you? Surely we can find someone that can help...

Is the bug completely disabled until the clutch is changed or can it be driven somewhere?

I tried to drive to work yesterday - but only got around 50 yards before I turned back. I have a local independant mechanic about 500 yards away from where I am parked, I will probably just take it to him.

Thanks for the info on the time required. I know he will rip me off - but at least now I will know he is. :)
