Did anyone else get a good laugh out of Ryle's emotions getting the complete better of him after ROG's drop goal? He went insane! Tony ward too and again once the whistle went. It was great to see a commentator, a person who has to at least try his hardest to remove bias and favouratism from their work go absolutley bonkers.

I certainly need to get a recording of this.

I like George Hamilton's comment during the Scotland game....."there goes Thom Evans spelt T-H-O-M in honour of his grandfather Fred"

    George you're a legend :D:D

could you blame him for going crazy? i nearly hit me head off the ceiling.

jesus if you only got clips of radio commentarys of local radio stations when county team wins all irelands in gaa, two fine examples include man from midland's radio 3 in 1995 when westmeath won the all ireland or shannon sides's seamus duke's brust of tears when roscommon won the minors in 2006.

You should've seen Ryle Nugents face after the game in the media center. He looked as if he was crying his eyes out, swiftly followed by a couple of beers.

I thought that as well. Imagine if we win the big one. Lets hope we do.

We have a great squad that could have a great chance to make it to semi when it really is on the day.

Whats best is that we have no real individuals

So, can we bring this up next time people use over-zealous commentators as a valid excuse to want England to lose?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

LOL the local newspaper (the Roscommon Champion) actually printed a transcript (!) of that commentary on the issue following their win

But can you really blame him? He has been commentating on rugby a good few years and he has seen all the ups and downs like everyone else, I myself went through a range of emotions watching it. like Declan Kidney said this was a victory for everyone, players, management and supporters.

Heh yeah I was thinking that but in general I think they both did a good job especially Tony Ward. They criticise when needs be and praise Wales when they deserved. Contrast it to the awful commentary in the Bernard Dunne fight when they just kept shouting ooooh everytime he landed a punch etc.

Didn't have the pleasure over here unfortunately and not a boxing fan.

I'm quite okay with commentators getting emotional when their national team does well - rather that than flat and boring. Nugent and Ward have always seemed decent commentatos to me. It's the criticising and double standards of reactions to it that gets me.

In my opinion Ryle is a pretty poor commentator. He regularly gets players mixed up and wouldnt have the greatest grasp of the laws either but he makes up for that with emotion and passion. It makes a game for me when the commentator is feeling the same. Nice one

no wild chance do you have a link to the web? i was at both games (croker and clare) only heard a recorded version of duke can could not really make it out as it was a cross between a whale and a bat. i won't slag him off for it, it was an incredibly emotional day that... lord knows what it would be like if the seniors ever win.

I was very annoyed with Tony Wards comments at the start of the match that if Wales played to their full potential that we wouldnt be good enough to beat them even if we played to the best of our ability, thought it was a stupid thing to say.

As for their reactions i suppose they were acceptable in the context of the situation. But i wouldnt agree that its comparable to English commentators. Nugent and Ward were broadcasting for Irish TV so it was ok for them to be bias.

Are english commentators not commentating for English TV?

They're commentating for British television, which includes Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland (im just talking about the BBC and their 6 Nations coverage)

I think nugent is very poor too, as producer hes snuck himself into commentatory team, and its just not what i like to hear, i find he lacks knowledge of the game like you get on bbc much better standard their, and im actually suprised by austin healy some very nice match info on sidelines.

Yeah that was Jimmy Mcgee doing the commentary for the fight. To be honest every time i hear him commentating on a soccer match, boxing match or any other place they put him i cringe. The guy is clueless god love him and he starts ranting on about things which have nothing to do with whats going on on screen things like 'Surely this man runs with the speed of a gazelle, a sight to behold indeed', 'they'll love him in the village of ....(insert local village here) tonight. At one point in the fight he said ' this is surely one of the greatest fights ever they'll remember it for years to come' Yes but jimmy now come on when your not doing soccer for rte and olympic boxing how many boxing fights do you regularly watch?...LOL. It's Like he's reciting a poem or something. He would be great at storytelling in a pub he's just not suitable for commentating.

I agree with the below poster on the Ryle Nugent thing. He was well entitled to get carried away for the grandslam but in general he does seem too lack calmness/professionalism in commentary and knowledge on the game and tries to make up for it by going over the top in his commentary. Remember his 'oh wonderful wonderful munster' comment when they scored in the final. His orgasmic commentary was just embarrassing during that match. It's like listening to a giddy schoolchild. I ended up switching over to sky.

Agreed, The bbc does the best commentary in my opinion too. Just right, never quite over the top embarrassing and they stick to the on screen action explaining the current play. Its short and well explained. The irish commentators tend to ramble on about inane things during matchtime not sticking to the play and nugent spends half his time questioning ward.

Although professional some of the exchanges between the english commentator and the welsh commentator and keith wood on the bbc though were hilarious especially when they were disagreeing on fouls during the ireland england game ' yeah but your both celts' lol
