    Hi,

Was wondering would anybody here know anything about switching off the service indicator on the dash of a 05 S40 1.6 D?
Local mechanic always services my car; cheaper/loyalty reasons. Anyhow we need to turn off this reminder thingy...without handing out €€€€€€€'s to a main dealer!!

    Thanks.

    or
With key off, push in and hold the button for the trip meter reset. Turn ignition key to position one, and wait for the trip meter to reset the displayed miles to zero. Continue holding the trip meter reset button in, and turn the ignition key to position two. In approx. 5-10 seconds, you will see the little orange triangle between your main gauges start flashing. Let it flash a few times, then release the trip meter reset button, then turn the ignition off and remove the key.

Wait a few seconds and reinsert the key and start 'er up.

You know not all of the main dealers bite your head off if you as for help or info ;)
Most people would be amazed how many indy mechanics ring us every day to get some help. Some of them can't even locate a service connector or fuel filter...
But I know the general opinion here is the main "stealers" should all rot in hell :D

Disconnect the battery leads and hold them together.

According to FIA information to scrutineers, this will reset all.

Haven't had the balls to try it TBH.

Fishtits.... thats interesting, dangerous maybe but certainly interesting. Think I will wait until somebody else tries that one out and lets me know how they got on.....

I simply just carried out the procedure as previously detailed (Holding the Odometer button whilst turning ignition key) and all reset perfectly..

Try again. You may not have held the button for quite long enough or something like that. That sounds like limp mode. any running problems up to now?

If you've disconnected the battery leads holding them together will do nothing*. You are making a circuit but the battery is what supplies the juice and you've removed that link. Can't see it doing anything TBH.

    * Just make sure you don't accidentally touch anything else though

No problems up to now. When i bought the car a year and half ago I did have problems with filter in fuel tank but that's all sorted now.

Must give it another go so but have tried about 5/6 times to reset it already.
