    Hi there,

I will be travel from south to north Poland in July this year. After looking at prices to renting a car I was thinking of getting a train. When I read some stories online about trains in Poland I am a little worried. Does any one know where you can get cheaper cars for rent or if the trains are safer now?

I will be going from Katowice area ( South of it 1hour) to Mrzeżyno in the north. No up to date items on this online so was hoping some of you lovely people will help me out :)

    Kind regards Gar :)

I don't know what you heard about the trains in Poland but I travelled on them last summer and never had any problems.
    Go 1st class.

I would rather be on a Polish train than on a Polish road.

The train from Krakow to Gdansk takes about 8 hours, if I remember correctly, so I suppose Katowice would be slightly less.

Thanks alot for the info. The cars are still hitting near 350 for 10 days which is better then I have seen. I was hoping for a 7 seater but that was € 1200. Think I will go with 1st class train & not bring any thing flashy so I don't look like a good person to rob. No movie on my PSP will just have to bring a good book!!! No sleep car in the train I will be getting for €40 return which is very good :) Thanks again for Info.

GF is polish, she laughed when i suggested trains when we were over there. Realy bad rep with the locals. Robberies/breakdowns common and crazy journey times (usually about double the driving time) Said buses are the way to get around. I drove nearly 3k over there and had no problems, bit more aggressive on the roads mind!

I've driven in Poland for the last 3 years, with no issues. The road networks would leave Ireland for dead, however I echo other posters in recommending you avoid the trains for safety reasons if at all possible.

I was in Poland last week and I was told you could buy a car very cheap. I would be looking for something that would get me to the Boltic from Way down south of Poland. Any one know any sites advertising near Bielsko - Biala? Seen lots of fiat 120 ( I think) what would they go for?

    regards Gar
