    Hi,

I need you guys to help me out here honest advice. I love athletics with all my heart at the moment I do 100m sprints, long jump and triple jump might start 200m soon.

The thing is I dont think am any good well I train as much as I can at least 1 gym work and 1 track work a week. I am 21years just, clocking under 12sec in 100m, 5 somthing in lonjump, 11 somthing in triple jump and 25sec in 200m agaes ago. Looking through my times they are not too great even though I end up getting medals in the long and triple jumps 2nd /3rd place. The winners are getting 6somthing or 14 somthing in triple jump and lower 11 to 10 sec in sprints.

Should I give up, I really love this sport but mixing college with work and training. I am afraid I won't get any far.

    Advice please.

You've answered your own question Mr Spy.
    'I really love this sport'.

Why would you be wanting to give it up? Do you have anything else in mind?

What you're really asking is 'how do I improve?' isn't it? Those are OK times/distances and a good starting place. Any club would be pleased to have you. Am I right in remembering you don't belong to a club? You do need the support, motivation and comradeship of club colleagues - athletics can be a lonely and individual affair otherwise. You need some good coaching and guidance as to what you need to be doing to become a contender. All the hard work in the world won't help if it is misdirected.

1 x gym and 1 x track won't cut it I'm afraid. You need more than that.

Let us know how you get on this smmer.

If you love it don't dream about giving it up. If you are in it for the friendships and the health and fitness stay with the events that are your favourites, if you want sucess why not switch up to 400m or 800m, you have basic speed so with the right coaching you might find some success.

Whatever you do don't give it up if you love it !!

this can have amazing effects i grew up with a club mate who was considered a fairly average distance runner and was always our last scorer in teams. He then decided to change is speciality distance and is now running at an international level and is regarded as having tremendously bright future on the international stage so dont give up on the sport
