I dont think hes technically doing anything wrong but I'd like to give him a wake up call.
I know him well but Im not related.

    Basically his story is this.
He was let go from his job in August 2007 he had a go at self-employment but couldnt make anymoney out of it(or so he says) so he took a few weeks christmas work and signed on in january 2008.
Then he used some money he had saved up and what he was getting from his Jobseekers benefit to travel around for a few weeks.
He came back and started looking for work but had no success as he has ZERO qualifications, by that summer he still had no job so he applied to do a course went on BTEA started that september and finished the course in January of this year. He still hasnt found work but he has been offered college course in england and is going to do it. Hes still signing on for jobseekers.
Hes using his dole money for all sorts of mad stuff.

He just bought a car for 1000 after his last one broke down and now hes buying another car in england for about 500euro:confused::confused:
He sends Cvs off every now and then but has heard nothing back.
He also going on a two week holiday with a few friends in a few weeks using the same money?
I know him well enough to know that he has no other sourse of income but is there someway I can give him a bit more off a kick up the arse to put more effort into finding work. Everybody said he was a hard worker when he did have a job and hes only in his early twenties but still I'd like to at least give him a fright.
    Any suggestions??

Do you not think the Social Welfare fraud department have enough to be doing without investigating legimite claimants?

So what's he doing wrong? Wow, he has some savings. There is nothing wrong with that. A car for 1000euro is not a huge amount of money.

Don't report, especially if you know him. Don't want to be 'that' person. He hasn't done anything particularly bad imo, especially not to warrant a parade of welfare officers on his front door.

The op is right to raise the question, to shoot them down with this comment showsyour ignorance of the problems out there.

If he was doing something wrong then I'd say go for it.

BUT - He isn't. I don't see your problem here? He has a bit of money to spend because he's a young single guy getting (I presume) 200+ quid a week and just because he's not literally sitting at home starving every night you want to report him?

I've greatly exaggerated on job applications when it came to my Qualifications and job experience and I still hardly ever even got so much as a "Thanks, but no thanks" letter back. Not actually eligible for the dole (Am in "employment" but it's insanely sporadic and I still live at home) but hell at 23 I'd say I've already paid more taxes than an awful lot of people on the dole ever have.

If you have a gripe it's not with him, it's with how much money you get on the dole. And it's hardly his fault for taking what he's entitled to.

he has to have more money somewhere other then what he gets from the dole , you can't go travelling around and buying cars just from the dole , ask him if he has a job and getting the dole aswell

Normally I'd say report straight away.

But this doesn't seem bad at all. And what wrong with buying a car for 1k? Maybe the guy have savings. That's between him, his bank staff and the SW inspector who examined his case.

    Leave it be OP

He might have a lot of saved money. 1000 isint a lot of money tbh.

OP I dont what you find wrong to report about? The man is looking for a job as you said. I know alot more that are sitting on their h**es doing nothing and not ever applying for a job. Only reason to report him if he was working or getting it from another source while drawing the dole and rarely for much else. I see no reason why you should report the lad.
    end of

How do you know if he only sends cvs of 'now and then', surely you don't know how many cvs he posts, how many intereviews he goes to, how long he spends queing in the Fás centre to apply for jobs or courses or how long he spends on the internet every morning looking for new jobs???

Is he not entitled to have a life because he doesn't have a job?

oh my god-that is just such a sad post. if your that bored get a hobby. you said yourself he's not doing anything wrong so what is your problem ffs??

"Give him a kick up that arse to make him try harder to find a job"?? What are you even talking about, do you think there is a department in the social welfare that come out to people to make them try harder to find a job?? have you heard of the economic downturn? How do you know how many CV's he sent exactly?

Get a grip on yourself, pray you hang on to your job and that your nosy neighbours arent spying on you next year if your on the dole.
