Went to Bull Island on Paddys day and spotted quite a few guys out kite surfing. Never seen it done before and quite enjoyed standing watching.

    Surfer and his dog.

    cool pics...
But i think it'ld be better if you'ld have had also taken the kite in the frame of the pic...

The 3rd one is pretty cool. But i'ld say it could have done with a bit more depth of field to give a more better perspective of his height in the air and such.
But then i'm only nitpicking again!!

    Good job!

Thanks, I did try to take a picture with the kite in the frame too but with the kite being so high up you could bearly see the guys in the water.

I thought there was no wind forecast for Patrick's Day and there wasn't any much on O'Connell Street. :(

Eeyore, they are great pictures. I love 4 in particular. If you have any more can you point me to them and if you don't mind, I'll post them on one of the kitesurfing websites

To get kite and kiteboarder in picture, you really need a comparatively wide angle lense and you need pretty much to be in the water with all the risks that entails.

This is more what I have in mind...lens is a 10-20mm but of key importance is the angle of the kitelines. You need to be in the water too and I strongly advice some splash protection. I am speaking from experience here.

You can also do stuff with a 50mm prime although I've never gotten what I want, I've done stuff with a 17-55 and my absolute want photograph was murdered by my camera dyingi n my hands. Some day during the summer though.

nutzz, I'm guessing that was the beach in Garrettstown? I've been down there but on not very windy days.

I would be too nervous getting in the water between the camera getting wet and knowing my luck I would end up falling or tripping!

    Calina great shot.

    Calina great shot.

    Thanks.

I'm down a camera courtesy of some water damage although not from that day, surprisingly enough. The other thing to note is kitesurfers travel fast. You need to keep an eye on them too in the water.

    If you're asking me:

DSLR/ 50-500mm zoom, or 70-300mm or 10-20mm or 17-85 or 50mm depending on what I want to do. Brushes to brush free the sand which gets almost everywhere.

wetsuit and helmet if you're looking for overhead shots. Waterproofing if you're going in the water.

Probably other stuff I can't think of now.
