Since 2 days ago, my iTunes crash everytime my iPhone 3G is connected. My iPod touch and iPod mini works and syncs fine with iTunes.

Had a look on the internet and the solution Apple gave was to deauthorize and authorize the account on iTunes. Unfortunately this did not do anything for me.

    Could anyone help please

    Win Xp SP2
    iTunes 8.1.0.52
    iPhone 3G 2.2.0

Forget about iTunes for a minute, can you browse the photos on your iPhone when it is connected via the USB cable?

In other words, can the computer see the iPhone before you start up iTunes?

No personal experience of this problem i suggest putting it into recovery mode and doing a restore, because Im not the best at explaining things I let others do that for me and this section from somebodies blog does it nicely.

BEWARE: This will delete all music videos photos and notes from your phone since you last backed up your iphone with itunes.
    1. Turn off your iPhone if it isn't already.

    2. Make sure iTunes is launched.

    3. Hold the center button and while holding, plug your iPhone into your computer.

    4. Keep holding until you get a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

    5. Follow steps given to restore from backup.

Provided you have a good and recent backup, your iPhone should be repopulated with everything you had before. You'll need to sync photos and music again; what recovery basically does is reinstall the iphone OS.

Always attempt a restore first before recovery. Sometimes that's all you need. And even before that, simply try a hard reset where you hold down the center button and the sleep/wake switch until the iPhone reboots. Many problems can be solved at this level.

If recovery mode doesn't work, I'm afraid a call to Apple is your next step.

    Just checked...

Yes I can browse through my photo etc on the iPhone

Windows actually recognizes and starts up iTunes, but that's when it crashes

I have thought of doing a reset, but I need to do a backup of my iPhone first, which I haven't done in a while because of this problem

Have you tried starting itunes and then plugging in the phone, (May make no difference but everything is worth a try)

Sorry, I didn't phrase that correctly.

What I meant was, once you connect your iPhone to the PC, can you browse the photos, stored on the iPhone, from the PC?

Right, so it sounds like your iTunes installation is corrupt.

You should probably try a re-install.

This is to update on my previous post. I have finally solved the problem.

What I didn't realise was that I had downloaded a podcast onto my iPhone. It was the one time I watched / downloaded a podcast onto my iPhone and had completely forgotten about it.

Once this was erased, iTunes synced perfectly with my iPhone - Great Success!!

Have found few isolated problems on the internet like this. Hope this will help anyone with a similar problem in the future.

ps - I have tried everything else - spoke to Apple support, met with the technical guys at the Apple store, entered numerous forums. I'm so happy that this is finally sorted!
