I desperately want to go to DCU to do the communications course in September but I'm not sure if the points are within my reach. Does anyone know what alternative courses I could do in the line of Events management, PR etc? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Media Studies in Maynooth and New Media and English in UL where the two others I looked at before going with CS. But don't cancel it out just because you don't think you'll get the points. Telling yourself you're not going to have enough is half the problem. Just go for the absolute best you can get in the LC and who knows after that.

Just to warn you there are thousands of people every year trying to get into event management, very very difficult to do. PR much easier. Most people do something like marketing first though and then a masters or diploma in PR. A lot of mates of mine did communications, now in careers as varied as PR, journalism, fundraising, marketing, librarian, web design and in particular a lot of them went and did primary school teaching afterwards.

Theres a Public Relations course in Dundalk IT, 285 points.
Qualifax.ie will be your biggest help in this situation.

    There is:

    level 7, event management, GMIT
Level 8, communications and PR, Carlow IT, 300 points (I hear carlow is good!)

Level 7, marketing - PR with events management, Sligo IT, 140 points

Those are just a few I found, search around Qualifax and contact the colleges that have courses your interested.

If I had any advice to anyone choosing college it would be don't go on the name of the course, look deep into what the course specification is and what exact subjects are taught (contacting students in higher years, lecturers, faculty heads, asking at open days) because some courses which you think might be what you want to learn about could be different in what they actually teach you!

Do as much as you can to find out what the real course is about before you choose ;) Hope I helped!
