    Hi,
just wondering if anyone can recommend where to buy a good pair of bicycle shorts to wear under normal shorts for long runs.
I'm sure you know what the main points of consideration are!
Not looking for full length running tights, more shorts for the summer.
Most sports shop don't seem to stock these.

    Any pointers appreciated,
    Cheers.

bike shorts have quite a thick chamoix. It might not be ideal for running, Lycra running shorts are probably more like what you need. wiggle.co.uk have a good selection. Where are you based and maybe someone can suggest a bricks and mortar shop near you.

Thanks for that HM...based in Dublin.
Lycra is the way to go alright, I just call the style bicycle shorts but I know they are in fact not used for cycling!!
I have a pair that need replacing soon. They are sooo essential on long runs!

These actually seem to be pretty popular for runners now...a lot of elites seem to wear them instead of normal shorts.

The Nike shop on Grafton street have a few different styles. They have them in Elverys on Wicklow street too and Im sure you'd get them in Arnotts/runways/Amphibian King.

I picked up a pair of "longish" shorts in Lidl last year. They go halfway down to the knee and look absolutely ridiculous, but they completely stop any chafing issues and they have a little zipped pocket at the back, making them pretty much ideal for a long run or a marathon.

I don't know if or when they will have those types of shorts available again. Incidentally they are selling running gear at the moment, but the shorts are more "normally" sized this time.

The underarmour or cantebury shorts are widely available, they are pretty lightweight too, but still offer decent support. You can get them in the rugby section of the elverys shops

I had this problem aswell. I was doing a triathlon and I needed a pair of shorts that I could swim, cycle and run in, and all in one go. The answer is obvious: Triathlon shorts. They look exactly like cycling shorts but theyre made so that theres no problem hopping off the bike and going for a run or even a swim. No chaffing no nothing. I got a pair of these and theyre the business.
You can get them in plenty of places off the net just type "triathlon shorts" into google.ie as a search and places in ireland that sell them will come up. I know for definite the www.irishfit.com sell them. If you click on "mens apparel" and then click on "triathlon apperal for men" you'll find them there. About 60 quid a pop, but well worth it.

hey guys, just looking up these on the net and jjb are selling rugby ones for £10 but they are cotton. Are these ok for running etc im currently training for a marathon

Don't wear cotton as it is an hydrophilic material (retains water/moisture). You'll get so much chafing that you won't be able to walk for weeks!

Dont be so paranoid. I have no affiliation with any sports shops. I was genuinely trying to help somebody out who'd had the same problem as me. You shouldnt be so cynical..........
