Trip to Florida Passport expiry question

    Hi all,

We are planning a trip to Florida for the Easter holidays departing 5th april for two weeks.

We have sent in the esta form online etc and got the authorisation number etc but just realized that our daughters passport expires on 9th oct 2009, which is 6 months away,

I remember reading somewhere that certain countries require you to have a min of 6 mths left on your passport before they let you in.

I rang our airline (delta) who said we need it to be 6 months but advised me to check with the us embassy. I cant find a clear answer online but finally got to speak to a phone operator who told me the passport only needs to last the duration of your stay.

I know Im probably being overly cautious but its easy for some guy on the phone to give this off the cuff answer when he wont be there at the family meltdown :D if we are refused entry.

Does anybody know for certain whats the official line?

This page seems to indicate those on the Visa Waiver, which would include Ireland, only need it valid for the duration of the stay.

There's still time to get a new passport for her if you really wanted to be sure to be sure.

AFAIK you'd be ok but as spurious has said you could renew the passport before you go.

Thanks Spurious and Wishbone Ash. I think you are right I will renew her passport just to be safe and re send the ESTA form with her new passport details or will that matter?

Wishbone Ash, if we run into trouble we might need you to create a diversion at the airport so that the 'dcom family' can make a run for it. watch for my signal. :D:D
