Sorry I missed your question. All the exhibitions start at 8pm sharp.

    There are 2 priced tickets.

    Ordinary--€25
VIP ticket--50 entitles holder to prematch finger-food function with the players at 7pm and a guarantee of a front row seat.

It's great to hear that there are exhibitions taking place in this country.

However, I think it's a shame to only read about it 1 day in advance, and only in a forum. Is word of mouth enough to sell all tickets?

I would have loved to see any of the players live, but the short notice made it impossible for me to react. Why weren't there e.g. flyers in the biggest Dublin snooker clubs? There are not many left anyways. I recently played at Crossguns and Ned Kelly's, but didn't see anything.

What a pity. I have waited for an exhibition for a long time, and even signed up to several of the players' mailinglists, but didn't hear anything there either.

    hi,
yep it's typical, i would have put posters up in the club (crossguns) if someone had sent them to me,mind you i saw this post the other day so i told most of the lads that i knew would be interested, in the meantime if anyone is organising any exhibitions send out some flyers or posters to the snooker club and we'll put them up in the club and put something on our website as well.

No probs there Zack. I wasnt resposible for the postering of the events, these ones are being run by the carers association. My only job was to organise the players, table, and ensure smooth running on the night. The carers done all promotion for them. If you pm me your address/ phone number, I'll be sure to contact you anytime in future we're holding something in your area.

    Hi there,
Sorry to hear you didnt find out about the exhibition until you read the post. I would have thought posters would definately have gone to the snooker clubs, but obviously they didnt. Like I said in my earlier post, it wasnt our job to do the promotion of this. We did organise a few radio interviews for the players over the last few weeks and I know the carers did a poster run, but they obviously didnt do the snooker clubs. If you pm me your name and address, I'll organise a signed photo of the lads for you and get it posted up to you.
I normally only post on the poker forum here on boards, this is my 1st visit into this perticular forum, but I intend to post more here in future. I'll certainly give the people who read this forum much more notice in future.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Hi,
I wasnt in Portlaoise tonite, i was in Clonmel with White and Hendry. But the norm is when we have 2 pros playing, they play 3 amatuers each in the 1st half of the show, and then the 2 pros play a match against each other in the 2nd half, finishing off with Steve davis doing a half hour of a trick shot routine. I was talking to my partner who said the Portlaoise night went off very well.

On a seperate note, I'd just like to inform people how well Steven hendry is playing. He had 3 centuries here in Clonmel tonite. I had a good chat with him earlier today about his form and the world ch/ships. He says he's absolutely buzzing in practice and is really looking forward to the championships. He's priced ar 60/1 on Boylesports (50's on PP), and 12/1 on Boyles to win his quarter.
I mean, this is the same guy that has won 7 Embassey world c/ships. Remember last year? He was 4-1 up on Ronnie, got a bad kick to stop him going 5-1 up and eventually lost to Ronnie. In my opinion, he's way overpriced, and if he wins his 1st round match against Mark Williams, what'll his price be then? Williams is 9/2 to win the quarter and hendry's priced at 12/1. Doesnt make sense to me and I'll be having a bit of that.

Also, the 3 players I'd fancy most in the tourney are Ronnie, selby and John Higgens, and they're all in the top half of the draw, opposite end to hendry. An ew bet in snooker is half the odds 1-2, so its 30/1 about Hendry making the final.

I'll be watching him closely over the next two nights he's with us, and if he stays cueing consistantly as well as he was tonite, then that'll make my mind up for me. He's just poetry in motion when he's in the balls.
Sorry about the essay, but I couldnt stop when i started!!

cheers i understood they would be playing amateurs what i meant by my question was, how are those people usually selected, like how did you pick the players that were at the clonmel event. Just would settle a discussion i had in the snooker hall the other day.

    sorry to bug you btw

Your not bugging me at all. On a night thats for charity, 4 of the 6 players playing the pros would be picked in the weeks before by approaching the local snooker club and offering them a few spots for their players in return for helping to sell a few tickets, while the other 2 spots are usually given away by 1) auctioning a frame and 2) anyone on the night that wanted to play a frame could write their name on a tenner and 1 tenner would be drawn for that person to play a frame.

On a night where we organise an exhibition for a club, then the club selects all amatuers that are going to play.

    Hope this helps.

I went to the one in Clondalkin (Davis v Selby). There were posters up in the Spawell 6 or 7 weeks before the event. Thoroughly enjoyed the night, met both players and was a greath laugh. Its sad not to see posters even small ones on the billboards, or even a cheap radio add. There was quite a poor turnout, nobody was left standing at all.
